Apple has released iOS 26 for the general public. The update is rolling out worldwide today as a free download for compatible iPhones, alongside updates to iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.
What’s new in iOS 26
iOS 26 introduces Apple’s new Liquid Glass design with translucent, layered visuals and refreshed system chrome, plus refinements to tab bars and sidebars that adapt as you scroll. Messages adds quality-of-life upgrades like polls and custom chat backgrounds with Apple Cash requests in group threads. Devices older than iPhone XR and the second-generation iPhone SE are not supported.
How to upgrade to iOS 26
Before upgrading, back up your iPhone using iCloud or a computer. To install the update:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General > Software Update.
- Wait for iOS 26 to appear.
- Tap Download and Install.
- Follow the prompts to complete the process.
The update size depends on your iPhone model. Installation usually takes 20–30 minutes and requires at least 50% battery charge and a Wi-Fi connection.
