AirPods Pro 3 introduce real-time acoustic seal test for ANC

Apple has introduced a new acoustic seal test for AirPods Pro 3, expanding on the existing Ear Tip Fit Test. This feature ensures users achieve the best possible seal with their ear tips, which is essential for noise cancellation, Adaptive Audio, and bass performance.

AirPods Pro 3 Acoustic Seal Test

The standard Ear Tip Fit Test, available on earlier AirPods Pro models, plays audio through the earbuds and uses internal microphones to measure how sound reflects inside the ear canal. It then checks whether the chosen ear tip size provides a proper fit. The new acoustic seal test builds on this approach by actively checking for sound leakage, providing a clearer view of whether the earbuds are sealed correctly.

Apple explains that a proper seal enhances every part of the listening experience. It blocks out external noise more effectively, improves low-frequency sound response, and makes Adaptive Audio more consistent across different environments. This directly addresses one of the biggest issues with in-ear headphones: an imperfect fit that can compromise both comfort and performance.

Running the acoustic seal test is straightforward. On an iPhone with iOS 26 or iPad with iPadOS 26, users can go to Settings > AirPods Pro > Ear Tip Fit Test, where a new option for Acoustic Seal Test appears if AirPods Pro 3 are connected. The system plays a short sound while the microphones monitor for leaks. If the seal is weak, it recommends adjusting the earbuds or trying a different ear tip size. This joins other AirPods features in iOS 26 that focus on personalization and hearing health.

The AirPods Pro 3 already introduced several upgrades over their predecessor, including foam-infused silicone ear tips in five sizes (from XXS to Large), longer battery life, and lossless audio support with Apple Vision Pro. Reviews have highlighted their stronger ANC and new live translation features, making them more versatile than ever. Powered by the H2 chip and paired with a case that includes the U2 chip for improved Find My tracking, they are Apple’s most advanced wireless earbuds to date.

Apple has also built stronger hearing-related features into its ecosystem. Alongside the acoustic seal test, iOS 26 introduces EN 352-certified hearing protection for AirPods Pro, expanding their role as both entertainment and hearing safety devices.

For users upgrading from AirPods Pro 2, the acoustic seal test is one of several reasons to consider the switch. Live translation also works across multiple AirPods models, with Apple providing a complete compatibility list for users who want to check support.

By making it easy to confirm fit at any time, Apple is giving listeners a more reliable way to enjoy consistent sound without guesswork, while strengthening the AirPods Pro 3’s position as the most advanced in-ear headphones in its lineup.
