When to expect M5 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and new displays

Apple’s first M5 Macs look close to the finish line as the next MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs are nearing mass production, alongside two new external Mac monitors. The current plan targets a release window between late 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, putting buyers on a relatively short countdown from rumor to retail.

This timing and product detail come from Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman. The report says Apple is nearing mass production of MacBook Pros (code-named J714 and J716), MacBook Airs (J813 and J815) and two new Mac monitors (J427 and J527), with launches expected between the end of this year and Q1 2026. That places the hardware in the final stages before assembly ramps.

Here’s the lineup as it stands today, plus where it sits in the schedule:

  • MacBook Pro (J714, J716) – approaching mass production, planned for late 2025 to Q1 2026.

  • MacBook Air (J813, J815) – on a similar timeline to the Pros.

  • External Mac monitors (J427, J527) – in development, targeted for the same window.

If Apple holds this cadence, the M5 transition will arrive roughly a year after the M4 MacBook Air and a similar span after the most recent MacBook Pro refresh. That pace would keep Apple’s laptop lineup on an annual to 16-month rhythm, which helps accessories and enterprise buyers plan upgrades and keeps Apple Silicon in step with broader performance and efficiency goals.

The monitor news is notable on its own. Two new external displays planned for the same window suggest Apple is preparing a clearer desktop story to complement the M5 notebooks. While specifications are not detailed, two models typically point to distinct tiers – for example, a mainstream display and a higher-end option – to cover a wider range of Mac users without overcomplicating the portfolio.

Based on this update, Apple’s M5 cycle is moving from rumor to readiness. With MacBook Pro and Air models tracking toward mass production and two new external displays in the same window, late 2025 to early 2026 is shaping up to be a solid upgrade season.
