Apple has released iOS 26.1 beta 2 and iPadOS 26.1 beta 2 to developers, two weeks after the first betas. The updates continue Apple’s post-launch cycle for iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, delivering bug fixes and system refinements ahead of the public rollout expected later this month. The new iOS build number is 23B5059e, replacing 23B5044l from beta 1.
Apple has not detailed any new user-facing changes in this release. Developers can install both builds through Settings > General > Software Update if enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, while public beta testers should receive the same versions shortly. These mid-cycle betas are intended to improve system stability rather than introduce new features.
The first iOS 26.1 beta included minor interface and feature adjustments, such as expanded Apple Intelligence language support, additional AirPods Live Translation languages, and visual updates in Calendar, Photos, and Safari. Those changes remain part of the broader 26.1 update, which continues refining the experience introduced in iOS 26.
iPadOS 26.1 beta 2 follows the same pattern. The earlier iPadOS 26.1 beta improved system animations, Notes swipe gestures, and a different Safari’s Downloads panel. No new visual or functional differences have been observed in this second build, suggesting that Apple is focusing on backend improvements and bug fixes.
The iOS and iPadOS 26.1 release notes on Apple’s developer site list ongoing SDK updates, API refinements, and known issues, but no new beta 2 additions at this time. Developers are advised to check that page periodically as Apple updates the documentation throughout the testing cycle.
For most users, this release serves as a stability update before the public versions of iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 arrive. Apple typically finalizes these minor updates after two to three beta rounds, once developers confirm performance consistency across supported devices.
Apple also released macOS Tahoe 26.1 beta 2, watchOS 26.1 beta 2, visionOS 26.1 beta 2, and tvOS 26.1 beta 2 to developers today while the public beta builds should be out this week.
