Red Dead Redemption iOS and Android release is finally official. On December 2, Rockstar is bringing Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion to iOS, Android, Netflix Games, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in one massive wave of updates and ports.
This is not a cut-down spin-off. It is the full 2010 classic, set after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, where former outlaw John Marston is forced by federal agents to hunt down the last members of his old gang. Undead Nightmare is included as the zombie horror companion story, turning the American frontier into a plague-ridden nightmare and giving players a very different take on the same world.
On mobile, the focus is on getting the entire console experience running cleanly on modern phones. Red Dead Redemption iOS and Android builds include the complete single-player campaigns from both Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare, along with bonus content from the original Game of the Year Edition. Rockstar is adding mobile-friendly controls, and players will be able to pair a Bluetooth controller if they want a more traditional setup.
Netflix is a big part of the story too. The same mobile version of Red Dead Redemption will be available through Netflix Games on December 2, so Netflix subscribers can download and play on compatible iOS and Android devices at no extra cost as part of their existing plan. For many players, that will be the cheapest way to try Red Dead Redemption on a phone, especially if they are already paying for Netflix anyway.
Console players are not being left behind. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Red Dead Redemption will run at 60 frames per second, with enhanced image quality, HDR support, and resolutions up to 4K. On Nintendo Switch 2, Rockstar is taking advantage of the new hardware with high resolution 60 fps gameplay, DLSS support, HDR, and even optional mouse-style controls using Joy-Con 2 features. It is a much more meaningful upgrade than the previous PS4 and Switch versions that mostly focused on basic compatibility.
The upgrade policy is also designed to pull existing players back in. If you already own Red Dead Redemption on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the digital backward compatible Xbox One version, you will be able to upgrade to the new PS5, Switch 2, or Xbox Series release digitally for free. PS5 owners can bring over their PS4 save data, and Switch 2 players can pick up exactly where they left off on the original Switch, which removes one of the biggest reasons people avoid replaying long open world titles.
Undead Nightmare is treated as a first-class part of the package rather than a small bonus. The mobile and console versions include the entire alternate timeline campaign where Marston searches for a cure to a zombie outbreak, along with all the extra content that was bundled into the Game of the Year Edition. For players who only ever finished the main story in Red Dead Redemption, this is a simple way to finally see Rockstar’s strange, horror-focused side project in its best form.
Crucially, none of this is a cloud streaming workaround. Red Dead Redemption iOS and Android are native versions with mobile-friendly controls and the option to use physical controllers. That matters for performance, input latency, and offline play, which are all pain points with cloud-based mobile releases. It also means that Netflix Games shifts from just offering indie and mid-size titles to hosting one of the most acclaimed open-world games of all time.
