Instagram has rolled out a long-requested feature that finally lets users edit comments after posting. The update introduces a 15-minute editing window, giving users a short but useful buffer to fix typos, adjust tone, or rethink what they said without deleting the comment entirely.

This change addresses one of the most common frustrations on the platform. Until now, fixing a mistake meant deleting a comment and posting it again, often breaking conversation flow. With this update, Instagram is aligning its commenting experience more closely with modern messaging expectations while still keeping some limits in place.
The feature is simple to use. After posting a comment, an Edit option appears, allowing you to make changes instantly. You can edit your comment multiple times within the 15-minute window, but once that time expires, the comment becomes permanent.
Edited comments are clearly labeled with a small edited tag, so others know changes were made. However, Instagram does not show version history, meaning no one can see what the original comment said. This differs from some messaging platforms that provide full edit tracking.
There are a few limitations worth noting. Only text can be edited, so if your comment includes media, the image or attachment cannot be changed. The feature is currently available on iOS and Android apps and works across posts and Reels, though it is not supported on the web.
While this may seem like a minor update, it reflects Instagram’s ongoing effort to refine everyday interactions on the platform. The feature had been in testing for weeks before its official rollout, and early reactions have been largely positive, with many users calling it overdue.
The update also arrives at a time when Instagram’s parent company, Meta, is under increased scrutiny over user safety and platform design, particularly for younger audiences. Alongside the comment editing feature, Instagram has also shared updates related to content restrictions for teen accounts, signaling a broader focus on improving user experience and safety controls.
