OpenClaw has launched its iPhone app on the App Store, giving users a mobile companion for a personal AI assistant that runs through their own OpenClaw Gateway. The app is positioned as a way to use an iPhone for chat, real-time voice, approvals, sharing, and automation while keeping the main assistant setup under the user’s control.

The broader idea behind OpenClaw is different from a normal AI chatbot app. Instead of only answering questions inside a standalone interface, OpenClaw is designed to connect with tools, services, and devices so it can take actions on behalf of the user. The iPhone app acts as a secure node for that system, rather than replacing the Gateway itself.
Once paired with an OpenClaw Gateway, the app lets users chat with their assistant from iPhone, use Talk mode, approve actions, and share text, links, and media from iOS into OpenClaw. This makes the iPhone part of the workflow, especially for users who want to control their assistant when away from their main computer or server.

OpenClaw says the app supports pairing through a QR code or setup code. After setup, users can use the iOS app to review Gateway action approvals, receive push wakes, and check node status updates for connected workflows. This approval layer is important because OpenClaw is designed to do more than generate text. It can be connected to tasks that may affect calendars, messages, files, and other personal workflows.
The app also supports optional device capabilities, including camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These permissions are handled through iOS, and users can enable only the capabilities they want to use. That is an important distinction for an automation-focused AI app because broader device access can be powerful, but it also requires clear user control.
Here is the official feature list:
- Pair with your private OpenClaw Gateway by QR code or setup code
- Chat with your assistant from iPhone
- Use realtime and background Talk mode
- Review Gateway action approvals from your iPhone
- Share text, links, and media directly from iOS into OpenClaw
- Enable device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders when you choose
- Receive push wakes and node status updates for connected workflows
Privacy is one of the more notable parts of the App Store listing. OpenClaw’s privacy label says the developer does not collect data from the app. The listing also describes OpenClaw as local-first, with users controlling their gateway, keys, configuration, and permissions. That puts it in a different category from cloud-only AI assistants where most of the experience depends on a hosted account and remote service.
The app is free to download and is listed under the Productivity category. It supports iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch.
