How to Change Music on Instagram Posts Without Deleting Them

Instagram’s new Replace Audio feature lets you change the music on existing posts and carousels without deleting them. Unlike before, you no longer have to remove and re-upload a post just to use a different song. Your likes, comments, shares, and existing engagement remain intact.

The feature is rolling out gradually, so it may not be available on every account just yet. Here’s how to use it once you have access.

Before You Start

Before changing the music on an Instagram post, keep these things in mind:

  • Update Instagram to the latest version.
  • Replace Audio is rolling out in phases, so it may not appear on every account yet.
  • The feature currently works on eligible posts and carousels that already include music.
  • Business accounts may see a smaller music library because of Instagram’s licensing rules.

How to Change Music on an Instagram Post

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
  2. Select the post or carousel whose music you want to change.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  4. Tap Edit.
  5. Tap the existing audio of the post.
  6. Search for a new song or browse Instagram’s music library.
  7. Choose the section of the song you want to use.
  8. Tap Done to save your changes.

Your post will remain live with its existing likes, comments, shares, saves, and link after the new music is applied.

What If You Don’t See Replace Audio?

If the Replace Audio option isn’t available, your account likely hasn’t received the feature yet. Instagram frequently rolls out new features in stages, so availability can vary by region, account type, and server-side updates.

If you don’t have access yet:

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of Instagram.
  • Check again over the next few days.
  • Wait for the rollout to reach your account.

Does Changing Music Affect Your Post?

No. Replacing the audio edits the existing post instead of creating a new one.

That means your post keeps its:

  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Shares
  • Saves
  • Existing URL
  • Engagement history

This makes Replace Audio a much better option than deleting and reposting content, especially for creators, businesses, and anyone with high-performing posts they don’t want to lose.
