Apple Hits $5 Trillion Market Cap: Second Company Ever to Do So

Apple touched a $5 trillion market cap in intraday trading on today, crossing $340 per share to become only the second publicly traded company to reach that milestone, after Nvidia did so on October 29, 2025. The stock continues to fluctuate and the milestone is not yet sustained, but Apple has firmly reclaimed its position as the world’s most valuable public company in the process.

Apple Prices

The pace of the run-up stands out, Apple shares have risen roughly 20% since closing at $275.15 on June 25, and the stock is now up 16% in 2026, making it the best performer among the Magnificent Seven year-to-date. That performance is particularly striking given that Apple announced significant Mac and iPad price increases in recent weeks due to rising component costs, alongside AppleCare+ pricing adjustments. The stock briefly dipped following those announcements but recovered fully within days.

A valuation milestone eight years in the making

Apple’s path through the trillion-dollar thresholds has been steady if not swift. It became the first publicly traded company to reach $1 trillion on August 2, 2018, then the first to reach $2 trillion on August 19, 2020. The $4 trillion mark came on October 28, 2025, making Apple the third company to get there after Nvidia and Microsoft, both of which crossed $4 trillion in July 2025. The jump from $4 trillion to $5 trillion has now taken less than a year.

The $5 trillion figure represents a fivefold increase in market cap in roughly eight years, which is a difficult number to contextualise for any company, let alone one that size. Whether the milestone holds in the near term will depend in part on what comes out of the Q3 2026 earnings call scheduled for July 30.

Tim Cook’s final earnings call as CEO

That July 30 call will be Tim Cook’s last as Apple’s chief executive. Cook becomes executive chairman of the board on September 1, when John Ternus is elevated to CEO. Cook will appear alongside CFO Kevan Parekh, and the call lands just two days after Apple’s $5 trillion moment, giving Cook an unusual capstone to a 14-year tenure that saw Apple’s valuation increase by well over $4 trillion.

Ternus takes over with a full product calendar ahead of him. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected within two months, with rumored features including a smaller Dynamic Island and 5G via satellite. A MacBook redesign, the first high-end overhaul in five years, is expected between late 2026 and early 2027. Apple and Klarna also launched the new “Apple Upgrade” leasing program today, allowing customers to finance most iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models.

A $5 trillion valuation reached on the eve of a CEO transition, and sustained through a round of controversial price hikes, says something real about how much institutional confidence Cook built into the platform he is handing off.
