Yab, short for Yet Another Browser, is a free Mac browser built for people who miss Arc, with AI that runs on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. It weighs about 40 MB, needs no account and requires macOS 15.4 or later.
Serafim Korablev makes Yab, and the latest build is version 0.35.5, available from the Yab website. The browser runs on WebKit, the engine already built into macOS, which is how it stays small. That is the same approach Search, another WebKit browser for Mac, takes.
Yab Brings Over Arc’s Spaces, Pins, Peek and Split View
Yab imports from Arc, Dia, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Brave. When you bring in Arc, every space, pin and folder lands where it was, and each one keeps its own color.
- Peek. Hold Shift and click a link to open it over your page. Closing it puts you back where you were.
- Split View. From a Peek, one click puts the link beside your page, and each half keeps its own address bar.
- Command-T. The new tab field suggests what comes next, such as a meeting in 12 minutes or the tab you just had.
- Tabs on top. If you are coming from Chrome, you can put tabs across the top with the address bar under them.
Yab’s site puts the app at 40 MB against 1.4 GB for Chrome. Ads are blocked before they load using uBlock Origin’s lists, about 160,000 rules, and one switch turns blocking off for a site.
Chrome extensions install from the Chrome Web Store, including Bitwarden, uBlock Origin Lite and Grammarly. Spaces, tabs and passwords sync across your Macs, sealed on the Mac before they leave it.
Your Claude or ChatGPT Plan Does the Work in Yab’s Tabs
Connect Claude Pro or Max, or ChatGPT Plus or Pro, and Yab uses that plan for its AI features. There is no Yab account and no extra AI bill. Apple Intelligence is supported at no cost, and version 0.35 lets you connect Cursor or Gemini directly, with Gemini working without another AI plan.
- Ask from the address bar. Type a question in the new tab field and the answer appears in the field.
- Command-J on any page. Claude drafts or rewrites in the page’s own text box, and nothing is sent until you press Send.
- Errands in their own tabs. Ask for the best espresso grinder under $300 across ten sites, and Claude opens its own tabs, with up to eight helpers at once, then leaves an answer page with the pick, a table and the sources.
- Approval before anything final. Sending, paying, deleting and uploading wait for your yes. Yab fills passwords itself and never shows them to Claude.
- Routines. A routine such as checking your mail and Linear every weekday at 9 runs on its own while Yab is open, and it only reads by default.
- Folders that keep up. A folder can refresh itself on a schedule, such as new one-bedroom listings under a set price.
Claude Code, Codex and Cursor can drive Yab through MCP or the yab command, in the same way Safari 27’s MCP server serves AI coding agents.
Select text and press Command-J, and commands such as Improve Writing, Fix Spelling, Translate and Summarize run on your Mac, so the words never leave it.
Yab 0.35 Adds PDF Fill and Sign, File Search and a Purchases View
Version 0.35 arrived on October 22 with a long list of additions.
- Pin Pair. Pins both halves of a Split View as one square in the sidebar.
- PDF Fill and Sign. Fills a PDF from your profile, adds text or a signature and saves a signed copy to Downloads, leaving the original unchanged.
- Files. Finds downloads, mail attachments and files you sent from one place, including text inside supported documents.
- Purchases. Finds receipts, orders and subscriptions in mail kept in Yab and shows monthly totals.
- Dark pages. Dark Reader is now built in.
History also groups browsing into day threads that you can rename, forget or ask about with sources.
Yab is a free download for Macs running macOS 15.4 or later, and an iPhone version is available as a beta on TestFlight.
Our Take
Arc users have had plenty of places to land, and Yab’s pitch is that it keeps the sidebar, Peek and Split View intact while adding AI that costs nothing beyond a plan you already pay for. Yab adds another option for anyone looking for ChatGPT Atlas alternatives, but its AI features depend on a Claude or ChatGPT plan, so check yours before switching.
