Apple is preparing to expand Apple Car Key support to Lexus vehicles, according to new backend code findings. References to Lexus have appeared in Apple’s systems, indicating that the company is getting ready to enable compatibility with the luxury brand.

This follows the same pattern seen earlier this year when Toyota support was discovered in Apple’s code before going live with the 2026 RAV4. In this case, Lexus appears to be next, although there is still no official confirmation on when the feature will roll out.
Lexus currently offers its own Digital Key system, but it works differently from Apple Car Key. It relies on a connection to Toyota’s servers and does not integrate with Apple Wallet. Apple Car Key stores a digital key directly in the Wallet app, allowing users to lock, unlock, and start their car using an iPhone or Apple Watch.
The feature supports NFC-based access, along with Express Mode, which lets users unlock and start their vehicle without Face ID or a passcode. On supported devices, the key can also continue to function for several hours after the iPhone’s battery runs out using Power Reserve.
Reports suggest that the 2026 Lexus ES will be the first model to support the updated Digital Key functionality. The vehicle is expected to launch later this year with a new infotainment system that enables this integration.
Apple introduced Car Key support in 2020, and it is now available across a growing list of automakers, including BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Lexus joining this list would mark another expansion of Apple Wallet car key availability.
