Apple plans low cost iPhone 17e, iPad 12, and new MacBook for early 2026

Apple is reportedly preparing a new wave of entry level devices for early 2026, including the iPhone 17e, a refreshed base iPad, and a brand new low cost MacBook powered by the A18 Pro chip.

These devices are expected to launch in mid Q1 2026, which aligns with Apple’s shift toward staggered release cycles. Instead of waiting for the big fall window, the company appears ready to push more affordable hardware earlier in the year.

The iPhone 17e is set to follow the structure of the iPhone 16e, keeping its overall design while upgrading key internals. Reports point to an A19 chip, an 18 megapixel Center Stage front camera, and Apple’s C1 modem. Most of the rear hardware is expected to remain the same, though some rumors suggest the notch may finally be replaced with the Dynamic Island.

A new 12th generation iPad also appears to be on the schedule. The design is expected to stay unchanged, but the switch to the A18 chip would make this the final base iPad to gain Apple Intelligence support. That upgrade alone gives the entry level iPad a major functional boost without raising the price into higher tiers.

The centerpiece of this early 2026 lineup is the low cost MacBook with the A18 Pro chip. The laptop will reportedly use the A18 Pro from the iPhone 16 Pro and feature a 13 inch display with color options similar to the iPad, including silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Pricing is expected to fall between 699 and 899 dollars, which would make it Apple’s most affordable modern notebook.

That lower price will almost certainly require compromises. Early reports point to 8GB of memory, a simpler display, fewer ports, and possibly a single USB C port. These choices would help Apple avoid overlapping too closely with the MacBook Air while still offering a capable machine for students, first time Mac users, and anyone who wants a clean entry into macOS.

The report also reinforces Apple’s evolving launch strategy. The iPhone 18 Pro models and Apple’s first foldable iPhone are reportedly planned for late 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 lineup, including the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2, is expected in early 2027. The early 2026 trio fits into this broader split cycle, giving Apple more touchpoints across the year.
