Apple is rolling out major content updates to Sneaky Sasquatch on Apple Arcade, including a birdwatching expansion launching September 17 that introduces more than 30 bird species players can spot and photograph for rewards graded on composition quality and rarity bonuses. The game is simultaneously running a crossover with Subway Surfers+, extending the property’s appeal beyond its core audience and creating cross-promotion opportunities that reach players outside Apple Arcade’s subscriber base.
The birdwatching expansion deepening of Sneaky Sasquatch’s gameplay mechanics; players will photograph birds across the game’s world, with rewards scaled based on composition quality and subject rarity, plus bonuses for multi-bird shots captured in a single frame. This content update reinforces Apple’s broader strategy of sustaining engagement among existing players while building narrative depth and character IP that could extend to merchandise and media adaptations.
Why Apple is doubling down on Sneaky Sasquatch’s expansion
Apple acquired RAC7, the two-person development studio behind Sneaky Sasquatch, in May 2025, marking its first videogame studio acquisition. The game has remained a top-ranked title on Apple Arcade since its 2019 launch and won Apple Arcade Game of the Year. For a company historically cautious about gaming investments, betting on a single indie-developed game with staff integration and ongoing content expansion represents a notable shift in strategy.
Alex Rofman, Apple’s senior director of Apple Arcade, explains the company’s commitment to sustained development and creative expansion:
Sneaky Sasquatch is the most beloved game on Apple Arcade and has had one of the most passionate communities of players since day 1.
The passionate player community, combined with consistent content updates and the September birdwatching launch, has given Apple confidence in the property’s ability to retain and grow its audience on the subscription service.
Trademark filings signal long-term merchandise strategy
Beyond in-game content, Apple is pursuing international trademark protection for Sneaky Sasquatch merchandise; an EU trademark application filed on March 25, 2026 protects clothing, costumes, watches, jewelry, books, trading cards, bags, lunchboxes, bedding, towels, and related consumer goods. Separate U.S. Applications filed in October 2025 extend further, covering toys, plush figures, television series, films, music, fan clubs, and board games.
Trademark filings do not guarantee products will launch, but the breadth of categories signals Apple is conducting comprehensive legal groundwork for a merchandise strategy that treats Sneaky Sasquatch as a major IP property. The company has already begun expanding the franchise beyond its digital boundaries; iMessage sticker packs launched in late 2025, followed by Apple Store holiday experiences announced in December. These early forays tested audience appetite before larger investment in physical production, and the trademark filings represent Apple’s reservation of rights across merchandise and media categories for potential future expansion.
