OpenAI has introduced Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts integration to ChatGPT, expanding its productivity features for both Google and Microsoft ecosystems. The update began rolling out on August 12, 2025, for Pro users, with Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Education accounts set to gain access in the coming weeks.
Users can activate these capabilities through Settings > Connectors > Gmail/Google Calendar/Google Drive. Once enabled, ChatGPT can directly reference emails, events, and contacts in conversations, allowing for more contextually aware responses and faster information retrieval.
The move positions ChatGPT as an even stronger personal assistant, bridging the gap between AI conversations and real-world data stored in widely used productivity tools. With Gmail integration, ChatGPT can help find specific messages, summarize threads or draft replies based on your email history. This removes the need to manually search through large inboxes and enables you to act on information faster. Google Calendar support adds the ability to check schedules, create new events and suggest meeting times within a conversation, making it easier to coordinate without switching between multiple apps. Access to Google Contacts further enhances the experience by allowing ChatGPT to instantly provide details about people you email or meet with, helping maintain context in professional and personal communication.
This expansion is part of GPT-5’s broader update, which brings new performance modes tailored to different needs. Auto mode balances quality and speed, Fast mode focuses on delivering quick responses, and Thinking mode is designed for more complex reasoning. The Thinking mode now supports up to 196k tokens, giving it the capacity to work with longer and more detailed context, while Plus users receive up to 3,000 messages per week in this mode. These improvements allow users to handle a variety of tasks, from drafting a quick follow-up email to analyzing complex project data, without being constrained by context limits.
The integrations also extend to Microsoft’s productivity tools, including Teams and Outlook, offering similar capabilities for those working in hybrid environments. This dual-platform support means ChatGPT can act as a centralized assistant, streamlining workflows across both Google and Microsoft ecosystems. For example, a user can check upcoming meetings from Google Calendar, confirm details from Outlook emails, and pull contact information from either system, all within the same ChatGPT conversation.
