Apple has released Final Cut Camera 2.0 with support for ProRes RAW and genlock for iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max and Center Stage front camera for the whole iPhone 17 family.
On supported iPhone models, the app also supports video capture in high dynamic range and an even wider color gamut with Apple Log 2 in ProRes or HEVC. Users on iPhone 17 Pro can also take full advantage of the new 8x zoom for 200mm focal length.
ProRes Raw support makes iPhone 17 and 17 Pro Max the first smartphones that can capture footage in this format. Apple explain ProRes Raw as following:
ProRes RAW addresses the substantial technical demands of high-resolution video by unifying professional workflows with a single, industry-standard format that delivers RAW flexibility with the renowned performance of ProRes. By leveraging the dedicated Media Engine in Apple silicon, ProRes RAW achieves both faster exports and smaller, more flexible files than other RAW formats, delivering an unparalleled post-production experience. In the upcoming releases of Final Cut Pro 11.2 and Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.3, editors gain precise control over iPhone ProRes RAW footage, with direct adjustments for exposure, color temperature, tint, and
The new app also supports open gate recording, which uses the full camera sensor to enable capturing a wider field of view at resolutions greater than DCI 4K. This means that editors can reframe shots, stabilize footage, and modify aspect ratios without degrading image quality.
Genlock allows users to precisely synchronize iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with other recording devices to the same reference signal. This ensures that each frame is perfectly in sync, allowing for bullet time like video capture.
