Foldable iPhone Ultra Wins on Ergonomics & iPad-like App Layouts

Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra is expected to be the company’s next magical device as it is poised to be its biggest event in years. The last such launch was the Vision Pro, which saw the company enter an entirely new category of products, that hasn’t panned out very well. However, the foldable smartphone market comparatively doing well, and sources say that the company has a winning product in its hands, as long as customer can digest the high price tag.

People who have used the upcoming smartphone have praised praisd its durability, ergonomics, and software.  As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPhone Ultra excels at gaming and productivity:

People who have tried the Apple model like how it fits in a pocket, the feel and durability of the advanced hinge mechanism, and the new iPad-like app layouts that take advantage of the larger internal display. It’s going to be an ultra-premium device that provides a halo for the full Apple lineup and will be a marketing engine to get people into the company’s retail stores.

However, despite the expected premium price above $2,000, there will be two glaring omissions in the new flagship smartphone. It will lack Face ID, and a telephoto camera. Apple is opting for Touch ID instead of Face ID, which is a major change for the company has it has moved all its iPhone to Face ID over the years. Users have built muscle memory over time for the seamless authentication method so it’ll be interesting to see how users reach to what might seem like a step down.

In terms of the telephoto camera, users will have to make do with a standard wide camera and an ultra-wide camera. It might have been acceptable at a certain price point, but when users have to pay top dollar for a flagship smartphone, it seems a bit surprising that Apple would decide to skip on providing the best-in-class camera capabilities. It seems that customers might want to consider iPhone 18 Pro Max for this.

Gurman also notes that the foldable iPhone will be very enticing for the China market as it buys more foldable phones than the rest of the world combined. China also has a competitive landscape when it comes to foldables as it has brands like Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Honor, Vivo, and Xiaomi competing for a share of the market and have years of experience with shaping their devices to match user needs.
