Apple releases limited edition Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand for accessibility

Apple has launched a new limited edition accessory called the Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand, created in collaboration with Los Angeles designer Bailey Hikawa. The release marks Apple’s 40th anniversary of accessibility and introduces one of the most distinctive MagSafe accessories the company has offered so far.

Hikawa Phone Grip Apple

The Hikawa Phone Grip Apple project began with interviews Hikawa conducted with iPhone users across a wide range of disabilities. The goal was to design a grip that reduces strain, supports different ways of holding an iPhone, and works as a stable stand for hands free viewing. Apple says the accessory was built from the ground up with accessibility in mind, rather than as a fashionable add on. It attaches through MagSafe, snaps on securely, and can be removed with little effort.

The grip has a sculptural look that matches Hikawa’s well known design style. It is made from soft touch premium silicone and comes in two finishes. Chartreuse is a bright, high visibility lime green, while Crater is a marbled gray made from recycled materials and exclusive to Apple. The shape creates a center opening that offers multiple gripping points, and when placed on a surface, it holds the iPhone in both portrait and landscape mode.

Apple’s head of accessibility, Sarah Herrlinger, says the Hikawa Phone Grip Apple collaboration reflects the company’s long standing approach to inclusive design. She notes that accessories like this can solve everyday challenges for users with limited hand strength or dexterity, and that Apple is interested in building MagSafe accessories that support more of these needs. The grip also follows last week’s release of the limited edition iPhone Pocket, which sold out quickly.

Hikawa says the project changed her design direction. She plans to create more adaptive products after seeing how much difference an accessible grip can make for users. She describes the feedback as energizing, especially when someone tells her that a design helps them hold their phone more comfortably or gives them control they did not have before.

The Hikawa Phone Grip Apple accessory does not appear in retail stores yet and is not listed in European stores at the time of writing. It is available only online for MagSafe compatible iPhone models and is priced at 69.95 dollars. Like other limited edition Apple accessories, the inventory is expected to be small.
