Instagram is introducing two new features that closely follow ideas popularized by Snapchat. A reposts feed is now appearing on user profiles, and a new interactive stories map is being tested for location-based content discovery. These updates are part of Instagram’s ongoing strategy to integrate widely used features from other platforms into its own app experience.
The Instagram reposts feed gives reshared posts a dedicated space on the user profile, separate from original content. This new tab allows followers to easily browse what a person has chosen to repost from other accounts. It offers more visibility to reshared content, which was previously limited to temporary appearances in stories or mixed in with personal posts. The new design also signals Instagram’s growing focus on content curation and broader user discovery through sharing.
In parallel, Instagram is testing a stories map that lets users explore public stories based on their geographic location. This feature mirrors the functionality of Snap Map, which shows where content is being posted around the world in real time. On Instagram, stories tagged with a location may now appear on this map, giving users a new way to discover nearby events, trending locations, or public content from other regions. While the app previously supported location-tagged stories via search, this map adds a visual and more engaging layer to that system.
These additions are being gradually rolled out and reflect Meta’s continued investment in maintaining Instagram’s relevance amid competition from TikTok and Snapchat. As Instagram shifts further into a platform that blends video, messaging, discovery, and sharing, features like the reposts feed and stories map help encourage users to engage with content beyond their immediate network.
Though not entirely original, these features aim to respond to how users already behave across multiple apps. With a growing emphasis on visibility and interaction, Instagram is leaning into its role as a hub for both personal expression and social discovery. Whether these changes stick will depend on user response, but they clearly point to Instagram’s evolving identity in a competitive social media landscape.
