Apple has rolled out a refreshed build of iOS 26.0 for the iPhone 17 lineup and iPhone Air, just days after the initial public release. This replacement build does not increment the version to iOS 26.0.1 but instead updates the build number, ensuring that the newest devices benefit from improved stability and bug fixes.
The launch build earlier this week was 23A341, while the updated build now shipping is 23A345. The change applies only to the latest iPhones, which means new devices activated or restored will automatically receive the corrected version. Older models remain on their original iOS 26.0 builds, as the adjustments are specific to the latest hardware. The updated build covers the entire iPhone 17 family: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the newly introduced iPhone Air.
One issue that has already drawn attention is a camera glitch affecting iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Air models, first reported by CNN. Apple confirmed that it has identified the cause and promised to deliver a fix in an upcoming software update. While that patch is expected to be part of the forthcoming iOS 26.0.1 release, the replacement build (24A336) may include under-the-hood improvements to stabilize camera performance in the meantime.
Apple has a long history of issuing these replacement builds in the weeks following a major release. Rather than rolling out a global update, the company restricts the fix to newly launched hardware, preventing confusion among users of older devices. Previous examples include the iPhone XS and iPhone 14, where last-minute fixes were applied to activation and connectivity issues without changing the version number for the broader user base.
For iPhone 17 owners, the situation will depend on which build their device ships with. Units that already run 24A336 will require no further action, as they will already be on the correct version. Devices still on 24A335 may see an update prompt during the setup process, or when performing a restore through Finder or iTunes.
Users can check which build their iPhone is running by navigating to Settings > General > About, where the iOS version number and build are listed. If the build ends in 335, it is the original release, while 336 indicates the refreshed version. For most people, the difference is invisible day-to-day, but Apple’s adjustments help ensure a smoother onboarding experience for new buyers of the iPhone 17 series.
