Apple has officially announced that preorders for the iPhone 17 lineup will open on Friday, September 12 at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time (8:00 a.m. Eastern Time), with the devices launching in stores and shipping to customers a week later on Friday, September 19. The lineup includes the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, marking one of the broadest iPhone releases to date.
The company has kept pricing consistent with last year’s models, which will be welcome news to customers upgrading this cycle. The entry-level iPhone 17 begins at $799, while the iPhone Air is priced at $999. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max tops the range at $1,199. This pricing stability comes despite notable hardware and design upgrades across the range.
Apple has positioned the lineup to appeal to different users. The standard iPhone 17 continues to target mainstream buyers, while the iPhone Air focuses on design and portability as Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet. The Pro models bring the highest-end technologies, new durability features, and upgraded camera systems aimed at photography enthusiasts.
Core features across the lineup
Every iPhone 17 model now includes a ProMotion display with adaptive refresh rates, an upgraded 18-megapixel front-facing Center Stage camera, and either the A19 or A19 Pro chip depending on the variant. The iPhone Air emphasizes portability as Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date, though this design comes with compromises such as a single-lens rear camera and shorter battery life. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max push durability and performance further with an aluminum unibody design, upgraded Ceramic Shield protection, enhanced anti-reflective coating, and redesigned rear camera modules featuring a new 48-megapixel Telephoto lens.
Apple has also increased the base storage across all models to 256GB, a significant shift that better matches the needs of modern apps, photos, and 4K video recording. Higher storage tiers are still available at additional cost.
Accessories available alongside iPhone 17
Apple is also releasing new accessories tailored to each iPhone model. Buyers of the standard models will be able to choose from a refreshed lineup of iPhone 17 accessories, including FineWoven cases, silicone and clear cases, and MagSafe chargers.
For the new ultra-thin model, Apple introduced a dedicated range of iPhone Air accessories, including slim cases designed to complement the device’s profile, MagSafe Battery pack and MagSafe wallets, and the new crossbody strap option.
Customers opting for the Pro models will have access to iPhone 17 Pro accessories, which include premium finishes and protective options that match the updated design, as well as upgraded MagSafe charging solutions.
