Apple has officially announced iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, introducing a striking new design, the powerful A19 Pro chip, and its most advanced camera system yet. The new models feature improved durability, next-level video capabilities for professionals, and the longest-ever battery life on an iPhone. Pre-orders begin on September 12, with availability starting September 19.
The redesigned iPhone 17 Pro lineup features a lightweight brushed aluminum unibody crafted from aerospace-grade 7000-series alloy. A newly engineered Apple-designed vapor chamber is laser-welded into the chassis to dissipate heat efficiently, allowing the A19 Pro chip to deliver up to 40 percent better sustained performance compared to the previous generation. This design also makes room for a larger battery, and with iOS 26’s power management, the Pro Max offers the best battery life ever on an iPhone.
Both iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max include a Super Retina XDR display in 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes. The screen reaches 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness, doubles outdoor contrast, and is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which now covers both the front and back for improved durability. Apple says the new glass provides 3x better scratch resistance and 4x better crack protection compared to earlier models.
Photography and video receive the most significant upgrades. The triple 48MP Fusion camera system includes Main, Ultra Wide, and a completely new Telephoto lens with tetraprism design, delivering optical zoom up to 8x at 200mm. Users also get a 4x zoom at 100mm, a popular focal length for portraits. Digital zoom reaches up to 40x, while Apple’s updated Photonic Engine improves sharpness, detail, and color accuracy. A new 18MP Center Stage front camera features a square sensor with a wider field of view, enabling portrait and landscape captures even when holding the phone vertically. AI-driven auto framing adjusts group selfies, while Dual Capture allows recording from front and rear cameras simultaneously.
For filmmakers and creators, iPhone 17 Pro introduces industry-first smartphone support for ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock synchronization. These tools bring professional-level control, ensuring accurate transitions and multi-camera workflows with Final Cut Camera, Blackmagic Camera, and third-party apps.
Powering these experiences is the A19 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU with built-in Neural Accelerators, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Combined with the new N1 wireless chip supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, the iPhone 17 Pro is positioned as a performance leader for gaming, AI workloads, and wireless connectivity.
Apple also continues its eSIM expansion, with eSIM-only iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models available in the U.S., UAE, Japan, Canada, and more. Removing the physical SIM tray allows Apple to fit an even larger battery, adding up to two extra hours of video playback.
iOS 26 debuts alongside the new devices, offering Live Translation, enhanced Apple Intelligence features, updated CarPlay, Apple Music improvements, and a new Apple Games app. The refreshed interface uses a Liquid Glass design across system apps.
