Apple has introduced the all-new iPhone Air, a new addition to the iPhone lineup that brings a breakthrough design, pro-level performance, and innovative new camera systems in the company’s thinnest and lightest iPhone to date. At just 5.6mm thick, iPhone Air combines a titanium frame, advanced Apple silicon, and Ceramic Shield protection on both the front and back to deliver durability without compromise.
The design is not only thinner but also re-engineered with a precision-milled “plateau” on the back housing the cameras, speaker, and Apple silicon. This allows for more space inside the device to fit a larger battery, enabling remarkable all-day performance. iPhone Air comes in four finishes – space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue – with pre-orders starting September 12 and availability beginning September 19.
The 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display supports ProMotion with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, Always-On display technology, and a peak outdoor brightness of 3000 nits, the highest ever on an iPhone. Ceramic Shield 2 covers the front with three times better scratch resistance, while Ceramic Shield also extends to the back for the first time, providing four times better crack resistance than glass on previous models.
Camera technology has been overhauled with a 48MP Fusion Main camera that delivers the equivalent of four lenses, plus an updated Photonic Engine for lifelike details and color. The new 18MP Center Stage front camera is the first square sensor on an iPhone, supporting both portrait and landscape selfies without rotating the device. It also enables AI-powered auto-framing, ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video, and Dual Capture for recording from front and rear cameras at the same time.
Under the hood, iPhone Air is powered by the new A19 Pro chip alongside the Apple-designed N1 wireless chip and C1X modem. The A19 Pro features a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a next-generation architecture that delivers faster performance, more efficiency, and up to 3x GPU compute power for on-device AI. N1 brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support, while C1X offers up to twice the speed of the previous modem with 30 percent lower power usage. Together, these chips make iPhone Air Apple’s most power-efficient iPhone yet.
Battery life benefits from this new architecture and software features such as Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26, which learns user habits to anticipate and extend usage throughout the day. iPhone Air is also eSIM-only, aligning with Apple’s push for flexibility and security in mobile connectivity. With support from more than 500 carriers globally, users can easily switch plans, manage travel eSIMs, and maintain secure connections without physical SIM cards.
iPhone Air launches with iOS 26, which introduces a refreshed Liquid Glass design language, expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities, Live Translation across languages, new visual intelligence tools, and enhanced CarPlay, Maps, Wallet, and Apple Music experiences. Apple Games, a new app, centralizes all gaming content on the device.
Apple is also introducing a new lineup of accessories designed for iPhone Air, including:
- iPhone Air Case with MagSafe ($49), a translucent protective case.
- iPhone Air Bumper ($39), available in four matching colors.
- Crossbody Strap ($59), crafted from recycled yarns and available in 10 colors.
- iPhone Air MagSafe Battery ($99), providing up to 40 hours of video playback when paired with the device.
- FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe ($59) in six colors.
- A 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max ($39) and Qi2-certified MagSafe Chargers in 1-meter ($39) and 2-meter ($49) options.
Environmental responsibility continues to be a central theme. iPhone Air uses 80 percent recycled titanium, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery, and a new 3D-printed titanium USB-C port that uses 33 percent less material. Manufacturing incorporates 45 percent renewable electricity across Apple’s supply chain, while packaging is fully fiber-based.
Pricing for iPhone Air starts at $999 (U.S.) for the 256GB model, with 512GB and 1TB options also available. Customers can get $200 to $700 in trade-in credits for iPhone 13 or newer, or up to $1,100 in credits when trading toward an iPhone 17 Pro with carrier offers. Availability begins September 19 in over 63 countries and regions, with additional markets following on September 26.
With its impossibly thin design, new Center Stage camera, Apple’s most efficient silicon yet, and support for iOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, iPhone Air marks one of the most significant iPhone redesigns in years, balancing advanced technology with portability and sustainability.
