Notion released a standalone iPhone app called Agents, positioning AI-powered agents as the centerpiece of its mobile strategy. The launch arrives alongside news that Notion Mail, the company’s year-old email client, will wind down on September 22, 2026, marking a strategic decision to consolidate around agent-driven workflows rather than traditional email functionality.

The Agents app lets users chat with Notion Agents to get answers from connected Notion workspaces, databases, and integrated tools without leaving the app. Users can capture ideas via text, voice notes, or photos, and agents automatically organize and file them. The app also handles quick actions like creating pages, drafting updates, or searching across connected tools through a conversational interface. Custom Agents built by teams are accessible on the go, allowing users to triage tasks or run workflows from anywhere.

Notion supports 3 AI model options: Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s GPT, and Google’s Gemini. This multi-model approach gives users flexibility that most competitors do not yet offer on mobile. The app requires a Notion account and works with all Notion plan tiers. It is free to download, with in-app purchases available.

The decision to discontinue Mail signals how radically Notion’s view of email has shifted. According to the company, more than half of Notion Mail users were already managing emails without ever opening their inbox, delegating those workflows entirely to agents. Rather than defend a declining feature, Notion consolidated mobile strategy around what users were actually doing: letting agents handle the work. Mail had become obsolete not because the product failed, but because the feature itself no longer served users’ actual workflows.
For those who relied on Notion Mail as a primary email client, the shift creates friction. Users will need to either export messages by September 21 or switch to traditional email clients. But Notion’s assumption is that these users represent a shrinking minority. The broader base of people managing tasks, notes, and workflows through Notion may find Agents far more useful than a sidelined email client ever was.
The iPhone app arrives as Notion completes a technical migration to native SwiftUI, a shift Apple highlighted at WWDC 2026 as a marquee example of performance-first development. That investment in native mobile performance suggests Notion sees Agents as central to its strategy, not experimental. The iPhone app is now available on the App Store.
