Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble has been announced as a free-to-play mobile market shooter, marking a dramatic pivot away from story-driven single-player campaigns toward real-time multiplayer PvP combat. The game will cast players as prospective Rangers competing in Captain Qwark’s combat simulation to prove themselves worthy of joining the next generation rather than playing as Ratchet himself.
Players will select from a roster of characters competing for Qwark’s approval through intense multiplayer matches. The core loop involves level progression, daily missions, cosmetic unlocks, and seasonal content including new weapons, heroes, maps, and competitive rankings. The game will feature explosive weapons grounded in the Ratchet & Clank universe, with 3D graphics, iconic locations, and character cameos.
The headline game mode is a 3v3 format where players fire a hypercharged ball into opposing goals using rocket launchers positioned throughout the field. This objective-based approach distinguishes Ranger Rumble from conventional hero shooters by emphasizing team play over pure elimination combat.
In total, there will be 6 different game modes for players to chose from, including PvP, PvE, and battle royale, all aimed at fast paced gameplay. There will also be 12 heroes to chose from at launch, with more to be added over time.
Each season will introduce fresh events, themed rewards, and a Qwark Pass offering cosmetic skins and limited-time unlocks. The developers have designed the game to pull weapon references and audio design from decades of Ratchet & Clank history, grounding the mobile experience in the series’ action-gameplay foundation, as well as trademark visuals and humor.
Sony has announced pre-registration rewards for gamers who can do so via the App Store or Google Play Store. Every pre-registration will count toward global milestones, and each milestone reached will unlock new in-game rewards for everyone. Players can earn Qredits, Reebos, and Raritanium to get a strong head start when the game launches, while the top reward would be an exclusive Clank Suit skin for Widget.
