Steve Jobs to be honored on new $1 U.S. coin launching in 2026

The United States Mint has unveiled the design of a new $1 American Innovation Coin honoring Steve Jobs. Set to launch in 2026, the coin pays tribute to the Apple co-founder’s profound influence on technology and design, capturing the spirit of California innovation that shaped both his life and legacy.

Steve Jobs coin

The Steve Jobs coin features a young Jobs seated cross-legged in front of a serene Northern California landscape of oak-covered hills. Wearing his signature turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers, he appears deep in thought, symbolizing the moments of reflection that inspired his philosophy to “make something wonderful.” These words are inscribed on the coin alongside “United States of America,” “California,” and “Steve Jobs.”

According to the U.S. Mint, the design represents how Jobs’ surroundings and visionary thinking helped him transform complex technology into something intuitive and natural. California Governor Gavin Newsom nominated Jobs earlier this year, describing him as a figure who “encapsulates the unique brand of innovation that California runs on.”

The collectible coin will be available for $13.25 from the U.S. Mint’s official website when it launches. Buyers can also purchase a four-coin set featuring Jobs and other innovators for $27.50, or opt for rolls of 25 coins and bags of 100.

This tribute is part of the Mint’s ongoing American Innovation series, which began in 2018. Each year, the program honors innovators and innovations across U.S. states and territories. Alongside California’s Steve Jobs coin, the 2026 series will also celebrate Iowa’s Dr. Norman Borlaug for his agricultural advancements, Wisconsin’s Cray-1 supercomputer, and Minnesota’s early mobile refrigeration systems.

The inclusion of Steve Jobs in this series highlights his lasting contribution to modern technology and his role in defining an era of creativity that continues to shape industries around the world. His belief in merging art and engineering still resonates across Apple’s products and culture nearly a decade and a half after his passing.
