WhatsApp Starts Rolling Out a Liquid Glass Video Player on iPhone

WhatsApp has started rolling out a Liquid Glass design for the video player on iPhone. The progress bar now gets the same translucent, glass-like look that already covers most of the app, which leaves very few screens on the old interface.

The change appears in WhatsApp beta 26.39.10.70 on TestFlight and is reaching some testers first. WABetaInfo spotted the update and reported on it.

The video player was the last screen that still looked out of place

WhatsApp has been moving to Liquid Glass since Apple introduced the design language with iOS 26. The chat list, tab bar, navigation bar, and message menu picked it up first, and the chat bar now floats over the conversation with a translucent background. The video player never got the same treatment, so opening a video meant landing on the one screen that did not match everything around it.

The work first showed up in an earlier beta, where the video player update was still switched off. That build also listed a drawing editor update, which this latest report does not cover.

The progress bar now floats at the top with rounded corners

The progress bar sits at the top of the screen as a floating element with rounded corners and a translucent background. In light mode the background is white with a glass-like finish. In dark mode it turns dark to match.

WhatsApp is also refreshing the control bar at the bottom of the screen, so the playback controls and the progress bar look like one set. The result is a more immersive player that follows the design language Apple introduced with iOS 26.

The same video player update is coming to iPad and Mac

iPad and Mac get the same Liquid Glass video player, so playback looks the same on all three Apple platforms. That follows the design work WhatsApp already did for the iPad app and the Mac app earlier this year.

Here is where Liquid Glass stands across WhatsApp on Apple devices.

  • iPhone chat list, tab bar, navigation bar, and message menu are already updated
  • The Mac app has the redesign rolling out
  • The iPad app has the redesign and is getting a Mac-style sidebar in beta
  • The video player progress bar and control bar are rolling out now in beta 26.39.10.70

Not every beta tester will see the new video player yet

WhatsApp is rolling the feature out gradually, so a tester on beta 26.39.10.70 may still see the old progress bar. Anyone in that group will need to wait for a future update to get the new design.

WhatsApp has not said when the Liquid Glass video player will reach the stable version of the app. The only build confirmed to carry it so far is WhatsApp beta 26.39.10.70 for iOS.
