Apple’s first foldable iPhone is reportedly running into engineering challenges that could delay its release timeline. According to multiple reports citing Nikkei Asia, the company is encountering more issues than expected during early test production, a critical phase before mass manufacturing begins. These setbacks could push back shipments of the so called iPhone Fold by several months if not resolved quickly.
The problems are emerging during the engineering test phase, where Apple typically refines design and manufacturing processes using large volumes of prototype units. This stage is designed to uncover weaknesses early, but in this case, it appears the complexity of a foldable design is slowing progress. Sources familiar with the situation say additional time will be needed to make adjustments, which may impact Apple’s broader product schedule for late 2026.
Reports suggest that some suppliers have already been informed about potential changes to production timelines. That signals the delays are not just theoretical but are beginning to affect the supply chain. Apple is known for tightly coordinated launches, so even minor shifts at this stage can have ripple effects on availability and marketing plans.
The iPhone Fold has long been expected to debut as a book style foldable, putting it in direct competition with devices from Samsung and Huawei, both of which have iterated on folding designs for years.
