YouTube Premium price increase is now official, with Google raising subscription costs across all tiers in the United States. The updated pricing took effect on April 10, 2026 for new subscribers, while existing users will see the changes reflected in their billing cycles starting in June.

This marks the first YouTube Premium price increase since 2023, and it reflects a broader shift across streaming services where subscription costs continue to rise. YouTube says the change is necessary to maintain its current feature set and continue supporting creators and artists on the platform.
The updated pricing impacts every plan. The standard individual plan now costs $15.99 per month, up from $13.99, while the annual plan moves to $159.99 from $139.99. The family plan sees the biggest jump, now priced at $26.99 per month, compared to $22.99 previously. The student plan increases by $1 to $8.99 per month.
YouTube Premium Lite also gets a price bump, now costing $8.99 per month. This lower tier still includes ads in areas like music videos, Shorts, and browsing, and it does not include access to YouTube Music without ads. In contrast, the full Premium plan continues to bundle ad free YouTube Music along with core features like background playback and offline downloads.
For users, the value proposition remains largely the same despite the higher cost. YouTube Premium still offers ad free video playback, background listening, offline downloads, and access to a large music catalog through YouTube Music. The company highlights that these features require continued investment, which is one of the reasons behind the price adjustment.
The YouTube Premium price increase also aligns with a wider industry trend often described as streamflation. In recent months, several major platforms including Netflix, Spotify, and Disney Plus have raised their subscription prices. This reflects increasing content costs, platform investments, and competition across the streaming market.
Existing subscribers will receive at least 30 days notice before the new pricing takes effect. Users who do not want to continue at the higher rate have the option to cancel or pause their subscriptions directly through their account settings.
