X custom timelines with Grok AI roll out to Premium users on iOS

X custom timelines are now rolling out to Premium users, giving the home feed a more structured way to follow specific topics. Instead of relying only on the For You algorithm, users can now pin topic-based feeds directly to their home tab and switch between them as needed. The rollout is currently limited to iOS, with Android support expected soon.

X custom timelines

The feature is powered by Grok AI, which analyzes posts on X and ranks content based on both topic relevance and user behavior. The idea is to move beyond generic recommendations and instead build timelines that reflect what each user actually engages with. Over time, the system is meant to get more precise as interaction patterns become clearer.

Premium users will see a new Add+ button next to the Following tab, where they can choose from more than 75 topics. These include areas like business, technology, design, entertainment, and real estate. Once selected, each topic becomes its own timeline that can be pinned and accessed instantly from the home screen.

X custom timelines also arrive alongside a new topic snooze option for the For You tab. This lets users temporarily hide specific content categories such as politics or sports for 24 hours. It adds a lightweight control layer without requiring users to fully retrain the algorithm or change account settings.

There is also a familiar feeling to how X custom timelines work, especially for users who remember TweetDeck. TweetDeck was often used as a multi-column dashboard where users could track different topics, lists, and accounts side by side. While X has moved that experience behind Premium over time, custom timelines bring a similar idea back into the main app, but in a more integrated and AI-driven form rather than a manual dashboard setup.

The key difference is that X custom timelines are not just static columns or curated lists. They are powered by Grok AI, which continuously adjusts what appears inside each topic based on engagement signals. That makes the feeds less about manual organization and more about adaptive personalization over time.

X is positioning this as a broader shift in how users explore content on the platform, especially as older features like Communities are phased out. Instead of grouping users into separate spaces, the focus is now on topic-based discovery inside the main feed experience.

For now, X custom timelines are available only to Premium subscribers on iOS, with a wider rollout expected later. If the system works as intended, it could change how users navigate the app, especially for those who prefer following specific interests without losing control over their main feed.
