A new iOS 27 supported devices leak suggests Apple is preparing to end software support for the iPhone 11 lineup and the second generation iPhone SE. If accurate, iOS 27 will require at least an iPhone 12 or newer, making this one of the more noticeable compatibility shifts in recent years.

This iOS 27 supported devices change points to a deeper transition inside Appleās software strategy. The company is increasingly building features around newer chips and on-device intelligence, which older hardware like the A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11 may struggle to handle at a system level.
According to the leak, iOS 27 supported devices will include iPhone 12 and newer models, covering the iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and the iPhone 17 lineup, along with upcoming models expected later this year. Devices expected to lose support include iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE 2.
While that may sound like a hard cutoff, Apple typically continues security updates for older devices. The iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2 are expected to keep receiving iOS 26 security patches for years, meaning they will remain usable and secure even without iOS 27.
A major factor behind this shift is Apple Intelligence. Many of the AI features rumored for iOS 27 are expected to require at least an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. These features could include smarter Siri interactions, improved system suggestions, and deeper app integration that rely on newer neural engines.
Beyond AI, iOS 27 is expected to focus on performance and reliability. Early reports suggest a refinement-driven update with better stability, improved keyboard autocorrect, and more control over interface elements like system transparency. A dedicated Siri app is also rumored to be part of the update.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 on June 8, followed by a developer beta the same day. A public beta should arrive in July, with the final release rolling out in September alongside the next iPhone lineup.
