Gemini Spark Is Coming to Mac with Voice Control, Automation and Local Tasks

Google is bringing Gemini Spark, its autonomous AI agent, to the native Gemini Mac app alongside voice support and background task execution. Gemini Spark is available today only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with the Mac version arriving as part of a broader summer update to the Gemini app that launched in April, 2026.

Gemini Spark Is Coming to Mac This Summer with Voice Control

Gemini Spark runs on Google Cloud virtual machines and can operate continuously in the background, even when your Mac is closed. It handles multi-step tasks without intervention: finding email addresses, extracting data from spreadsheets, drafting emails in Gmail based on complex instructions, or pulling together information from multiple sources. Real-world testing has shown Spark can infer context and make reasonable decisions about how to accomplish a goal, a capability that separates it from simpler AI assistants requiring explicit step-by-step direction.

The upcoming Mac version will integrate Spark’s capabilities into the Gemini app, which users can open via Option + Space (mini window) or Option + Shift + Space (full chat) keyboard shortcuts. Voice control will be new for Mac, allowing users to command Gemini by speaking rather than typing. Google demonstrated at I/O in May how Mac users could select files and images in Finder, then press Function and issue a voice command to Gemini; the company showed a demo in which Spark drafted and sent an email to a dog kennel with the dog’s information and image attached in response to a single voice instruction.

Gemini Spark uses Gemini 3.5 Flash and Antigravity, Google’s inference model, and includes MCP (Model Context Protocol) support to integrate with third-party applications. Google has announced plans to bring Spark to Chrome later this summer as well, expanding access beyond the Mac app and web interface.

Google AI Ultra costs $249.99 per month; the standard Google AI Plus subscription is $7.99 per month and Google AI Pro is $19.99 per month, though Spark access is exclusive to Ultra subscribers. The Gemini Mac app has drawn privacy scrutiny since launch for installing background helpers, GeminiAppLauncher and GoogleUpdater, that launch automatically and persist even if users manually remove them, raising questions about data handling and background execution on Mac.
