ProMotion landed on every flagship iPhone in 2025, ending a four-year stretch where the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate was exclusive to Pro models. The technology uses an LTPO OLED panel to dynamically adjust the refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz, delivering smooth scrolling and animations when needed while dropping to near-static refresh rates to preserve battery.
The list below covers every iPhone with a 120Hz ProMotion display, including the latest models and older generations that still support Apple’s adaptive refresh rate. We’ve also included the current iPhones that are still limited to 60Hz. If you’re unsure which model you have, our guide on how to identify your iPhone model can help.

Every iPhone With a 120Hz ProMotion Display
iPhone 17 Pro Max, the Biggest ProMotion Display Apple Ships
The iPhone 17 Pro Max carries a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On at 1Hz, and 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness, the highest ever on an iPhone. At $1,199, it also delivers 2x better outdoor contrast. On pure display specifications, nothing in Apple’s current lineup surpasses it.
iPhone 17 Pro, the Same Display Specs in a More Compact Form
The iPhone 17 Pro matches the Pro Max on every display specification: 120Hz ProMotion, Always-On, and 3,000 nits peak brightness, all on a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR panel. Starting at $1,099, it delivers identical visual performance to the Pro Max in a smaller footprint. The 6.3-inch size also matches the standard iPhone 17, which makes the display specs the clearest differentiator between the two at that size.

iPhone Air, ProMotion and Always-On in Apple’s Thinnest iPhone
The iPhone Air brings a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion at 1Hz, 120Hz and Always-On to Apple’s thinnest iPhone design. Starting at $999, it sits between the standard iPhone 17 and the Pro in both price and features, and it is the only non-Pro model in the current lineup with an Always-On display. That combination of size, slim construction, and full ProMotion support makes it a distinct option in the 2025 lineup.

iPhone 17, the First Standard iPhone With ProMotion
The iPhone 17 arrived as the first non-Pro standard iPhone to include ProMotion, with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display capable of up to 120Hz. Starting at $799, it does not include Always-On display, which remains a Pro and Air feature, but the core ProMotion adaptive refresh rate is present. That put 120Hz on Apple’s entry point for its flagship lineup, four years after the feature first appeared on the iPhone 13 Pro.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Still Capable at Lower Prices
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, released in 2024, both feature ProMotion at 1Hz, 120Hz with Always-On display via LTPO OLED panels. They remain available through Apple’s lineup at reduced prices and represent a capable entry into the ProMotion ecosystem for buyers who do not need the 3,000-nit brightness of the 2025 Pro models. The ProMotion implementation is identical in principle to the current Pro generation, so the display experience in everyday use is comparable.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Full ProMotion One Generation Back
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, launched in 2023, carry ProMotion at 1Hz, 120Hz and Always-On display, making them technically current on refresh rate despite being two generations old. They are no longer sold new by Apple directly but remain widely available through resellers and carriers. For buyers upgrading from any 60Hz iPhone, either model delivers the full ProMotion experience at a meaningfully lower price than current-generation hardware.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Where Always-On Joined ProMotion
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max were the first iPhones to combine ProMotion with Always-On display, dropping the adaptive refresh floor to 1Hz from the 10Hz minimum on the iPhone 13 Pro. That lower floor is what made Always-On practical without significant battery impact, and the feature set introduced here carried forward to every Pro iPhone since.

iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Where ProMotion on iPhone Began
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, released in September 2021, were the first iPhones to ship with ProMotion, supporting an adaptive refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz via an LTPO OLED panel. Always-On was not yet present, and the 10Hz floor meant the technology served primarily as a smoothness upgrade rather than a low-power ambient display enabler. They are several generations behind the current standard for ProMotion, but they mark the starting point of the feature’s iPhone history.
Which iPhones Do Not Have ProMotion?
Three current iPhones are capped at 60Hz: the iPhone 17e ($599), the iPhone 16 ($699), and the iPhone 16 Plus ($699). All three use LTPS TFT panels, which cannot support variable refresh rates. The iPhone 17e in particular draws comparison to Android competitors at similar price points that have offered 120Hz displays for several years.
