Anthropic is done making people pick a lane before starting a task. Starting today, Claude Cowork and regular Claude chat are merging into a single Claude experience, so a quick question and a full report due at noon can both start from the same conversation.
Anthropic announced the change on their blog, saying the update is rolling out on Pro and Max plans over the coming weeks, with other plans to follow.
Claude Docs and Claude Slides Arrive Alongside the Merge
The bigger change is what Claude can now build without leaving the chat window. Claude Docs and Claude Slides are both launching today, and Claude Design now works inside regular conversations too, instead of living in its own separate space.
Ask Claude for a document and it writes one with you in real time. Ask for a presentation and Claude drafts the slides directly. Finished work can be edited in place, presented straight from Claude, or downloaded as a PowerPoint file or PDF.
All three tools are in beta on paid plans. Enterprise admins get to decide when their organizations gain access, and anyone already using Claude Design on its own will see it keep working exactly as it did before.
A Weekly Report Now Comes With Matching Slides Built In
Anthropic walked through a specific example to show how the merged workflow plays out. Someone asks Claude what moved in a project pipeline over the past week, then tells it to write the update in the team’s usual format, flag anything that slipped, and turn the highlights into five slides for a leadership meeting.
Claude asks for clarification if something is unclear, and progress can be checked from a phone before reaching the office. By the time the person sits down at their desk, the report is ready as a doc with a teammate’s comments already on it, and the slides are ready to open and download.
Because both outputs came from the same conversation, the slides already match the report instead of needing to be rebuilt separately. Everything Claude makes through Design, Slides, or Docs lives at one shareable link that opens on a phone, and users can select any element and move it or just tell Claude what to change.
Our Take
Splitting Cowork and Design into separate apps always felt like a stopgap while Anthropic figured out where each fit. Merging them back into one Claude makes more sense for how people actually work, since most tasks don’t announce upfront whether they’re a quick chat or a project that needs its own workspace.
Letting Claude keep working and only flag things that need a closer look is the more useful mode for real workloads, but it’s also the one that needs the most trust before people turn it on by default.
