Images of new AirPods 3 surface with redesigned charging case and smaller earbuds

Apple leaker @LeaksApplePro and GizmoChina have shared pictures of the next-generation AirPods 3. The alleged images of third-generation AirPods show an AirPods Pro-like smaller charging case and earbuds design. It is also expected that the new earbuds model will launch this month, probably on March 23.

Since May 2020, supply chain sources and leakers have claimed that Apple would launch third-generation AirPods with Pro like design, also referred to as AirPods Lite. In addition to the design, it is reported that the company would exclude the active noise cancellation feature in the new earbuds model. However, GizmoChina’s claims say that Apple might include active noise cancellation in the new third-generation AirPods.

The publisher claims to have obtained a third-generation AirPods unit from a supplier.

Ahead of the launch, we have got our hands on a new set of AirPods 3 renders from suppliers. The design showcased in the renders is likely the final version which will be released in the market for everyone to purchase.

The design is pretty much in line with the previous render leaks, resembling the design of the AirPods Pro. It appears that the AirPods 3 will have a shorter stem and come with replaceable ear tips, similar to what we have seen with the company’s AirPods Pro.

Later, @LeaksApplePro tweeted similar images of alleged AirPods 3 with smaller and wider charging case and short-stem earbuds. Previously, tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the third-generation AirPods will go into mass production by 2021. He wrote that,

“The third-generation ‌AirPods‌ will go to mass production in the 1H21, and the most significant change of the internal design of this new model is the adoption of SiP to replace the rigid-flex PCB+SMT design of second-generation ‌AirPods‌. We believe that Apple will pull in this new model because of the declining demand for second-generation ‌AirPods‌. Luxshare ICT will be the main supplier for this new model.”

For the higher-end AirPods Pro, it was reported that the Cupertino tech giant will launch a new and cheaper model, $200 AirPods Pro Lite which will be powered by an H1 chip (currently used in AirPods Max) and shockingly will not feature active noise cancellation feature.
