Amazon Alexa Tablets Take Aim at the iPad, From $229.99

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 are Amazon’s new Android tablets, and all three have Google Play access, Alexa+, and prices well below the iPad lineup. The flagship is the one aimed squarely at the iPad Pro.

Amazon announced the tablets with all three models available to order today, and ship from October 14, 2026, in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Amazon is also selling them through Best Buy and Target. Here is how the starting prices break down:

  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 8: $229.99 with an 8.7-inch display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 11: $329.99 with an 11-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: $499.99 with a 12-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The Nanomatte version starts at $549.99.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts about $700 below the iPad Pro

The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $1,199 and the 13-inch model starts at $1,499. The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro costs $499.99, and it has a 12-inch display at 280 PPI with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The body is a single piece of aluminum that measures 6.5mm thin, compared with 5.3mm for the 11-inch iPad Pro.

Inside is a 4nm 8-core chip with up to 16GB of RAM, along with quad Dolby Atmos speakers and Wi-Fi 6E. Amazon rates video playback at up to 16 hours, while Apple lists up to 10 hours for the iPad Pro. The two numbers come from different tests, so they are not a clean comparison. Amazon does not say what panel type the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro uses, and Apple’s iPad Pro has a tandem OLED display.

The Nanomatte display is the closest match to the nano-texture glass on the iPad Pro. Amazon developed it with Corning, and it uses an etched glass texture to cut glare. Apple limits nano-texture glass to the 1TB and 2TB iPad Pro models, which puts its entry price at $1,899 for the 11-inch size. The Nanomatte version of the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro costs $549.99.

Two accessories are made for the tablet, and they match up with the Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro.

  • Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Pen ($89.99): a USI 2.0 active pen with 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic docking, and wireless charging.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard ($149.99): attaches magnetically with no Bluetooth pairing and lets users run email, Slack, and other apps in side-by-side windows.

Amazon says the tablet supports work and personal profiles too. iPadOS 26 brought its own multitasking changes to the iPad Pro, which we covered in our M5 iPad Pro reviews post.

Amazon Alexa Tablets run Android and Google Play, ending the app gap with the iPad

Earlier Amazon tablets were limited to the company’s own app store. The new models run Android and include Google Play, so apps like YouTube, Netflix, Gmail, and Google Docs install directly. Amazon’s own Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, and Amazon Luna are preinstalled.

Alexa+ runs on every model and appears when users say the wake word or tap the Ask Alexa button. An On-Screen Intelligence option lets the assistant read the display and act on what it sees, though Amazon says the feature is off by default and an indicator shows whenever Alexa can see the screen. The iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini support Apple Intelligence, while the base iPad with the A16 chip does not.

Opening a book in the Kindle app puts the tablet into a reading mode. Notifications go quiet, blue light is reduced, and Amazon rates battery life at up to 20 hours in that mode. The Amazon Alexa Tablet Pro Pen can highlight and write notes in books, and those annotations sync to Kindle Scribe.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 and Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 cost far less than the iPad and iPad mini

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 starts at $329.99 and has an 11-inch 2.5K display at 276 PPI, a 90Hz refresh rate, an 8-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Amazon quotes up to 15 hours of video playback. The iPad with the A16 chip starts at $449 with an 11-inch display that has no ProMotion, and the iPad Air with M4 starts at $749 with the same 60Hz limit.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $229.99 with an 8.7-inch display. It weighs 329g, measures 7.95mm thin, and is rated for up to 14 hours of video. The iPad mini has an 8.3-inch display and starts at $599, and Apple is expected to refresh it soon, which we covered in our look at the OLED iPad mini 8.

Amazon also announced Amazon Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes. Each bundle includes a kid-proof case and a year of Amazon Kids+.

The Amazon Alexa Tablets start shipping in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on October 19, 2026.
