With less than 24 hours to go until Apple’s “Awe dropping” event, leaks are still flowing in. The latest comes from leaker Sonny Dickson, who has shared images of what appears to be Apple’s new crossbody strap for iPhone 17. The strap is shown in a bright orange shade, a color that has also been rumored to arrive with the iPhone 17 Pro.
The crossbody strap is designed to work with Apple’s upcoming TechWoven cases, which are expected to replace the discontinued FineWoven line. These new cases will reportedly feature attachment holes in the bottom corners, allowing users to loop the strap through securely. What makes this strap stand out is its flexible metal core and magnetic design that runs through its entire length, making it easier to connect, disconnect, and adjust.
This aligns with earlier leaks from Majin Bu and DuanRui, who shared CAD drawings and case clones showing the attachment points for Apple’s new accessory. Bloomberg has also reported that Apple’s design team has treated the crossbody strap as a priority, pairing it with the company’s push into new case materials and bold color strategies. Beyond orange, the lineup could mirror Apple’s broader plans, such as bringing the light blue shade from the M4 MacBook Air to the iPhone 17 Air.
Apple has previously experimented with wearable-style accessories. The AirPods Pro 2 charging case includes a lanyard cutout, while the fifth-generation iPod touch shipped with built-in attachment hardware. A crossbody strap for iPhone 17 fits into this lineage, but with a more polished execution aimed at usability and style.
The practical benefits are hard to miss. In markets like the UK, where phone theft is a growing issue, a crossbody strap can help reduce snatching incidents while also preventing drops. It also makes sense for summer outfits where pocket space is limited. By leaning into functionality as well as fashion, Apple may be positioning the strap as more than a niche accessory.
The strap will debut alongside the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9, with Apple also expected to showcase AirPods Pro 3 and new Apple Watch models. The bright orange crossbody strap leak might be the clearest sign yet of Apple’s plan to pair its hardware with more lifestyle-focused accessories.
