Estimated shipping dates for new Apple Pencil adapter already increasing

Apple recently announced the redesigned 10th-generation iPad with USB-C connectivity among other improvements. Unfortunately, the device does not offer support for the second-generation Apple Pencil. So, first-generation Apple Pencil owners now have to purchase a new USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter to use the accessory with iPad 10.

Though the iPad 10 has not yet been launched, the $9 Apple Pencil adapter is already facing up to a one-month delay in shipping.

The new entry-level iPad is being marketed as a great tool for productivity and creativity with a new display, USB-C connectivity, faster Wi-Fi 6, and much more. And while it does serve that purpose, the device does not support the second-generation Apple Pencil.

To charge the first-gen Apple Pencil, users typically have to plug it into a Lightning port. However, since Apple ditched the Lightning port in favor of USB-C connectivity, that is not possible either. In the press release for the 10th-generation iPad, Apple revealed that existing users of the first-gen Apple Pencil will need to shell out $9 for a new USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter.

The iPad 10 is available to order in 28 countries and regions and will start shipping on October 26. Ahead of its launch, the new USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter has already started seeing a 3-4 week shipping delay in the United States. This is a great measure of how many consumers are interested in the new 10th-generation iPad. Subsequently, this also shows how big of a hindrance the lack of support for the second-generation Apple Pencil is going to be for some users.

The second-generation Apple Pencil requires a magnetic wireless charger. The charger resides at the side of the side. Since the iPad 10 offers a new landscape FaceTime camera, it is likely that Apple simply could not incorporate a magnetic wireless charger with the new selfie camera layout.

The adapter can be purchased separately for existing ‌Apple Pencil‌ users. On the other hand, users who purchase the first-gen Apple Pencil now will receive the new adapter in the box.
