Apple today rolled out macOS Sequoia 15.6, the sixth update to macOS 15 (Sequoia), first released on September 16, 2024. Coming over two months after version 15.5, this release is focused squarely on improving system stability and security rather than adding new features. The update is available for free on all Macs compatible with Sequoia via System Settings > Software Update.
What’s New in macOS 15.6
The official release notes emphasize important fixes and behind‑the‑scenes improvements:
Fixed: An issue in Finder and Apple Configurator that could prevent some devices from restoring from DFU mode, potentially bricking them.
In addition, approximately 81 security vulnerabilities across system components – including iBoot and Safari – are addressed in this update. Apple does not report any of these issues as having been actively exploited.
For Apple silicon Macs, the build is labelled 24G84, Safari updates to version 18.6 (20621.3.11.11.3), and iBoot updates to version 11881.140.96. The download for Apple‑silicon machines is around 2.8 GB.
