Apple Sports Adds Seven Soccer Leagues in August Update

Apple Sports rolled out version 4.3 today with support for seven additional soccer leagues, continuing a surge that added 14 leagues in a single month following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The new leagues now available in the iPhone app are the Austrian Bundesliga, English Women’s Super League, Greek Super League, Indian Super League, Saudi Pro League, Spanish Liga F, and Turkish Süper Lig. This August update arrives just three weeks after a July expansion that added the Belgian Pro League, Superliga (Denmark), Eredivisie (Netherlands), and J1 League (Japan).

Apple released the July update one day after the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain ended, capturing casual fans at the moment they would naturally shift to domestic league coverage. Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music, Sports, Apple TV, and Beats, said: “The World Cup unites fans across the globe, making it the ideal moment to bring Apple Sports to even more users.”

The timing targets specific growth markets with precision. The Indian Super League and Saudi Pro League reach high-growth regions in Asia and the Middle East, while the English Women’s Super League and Spanish Liga F represent a commitment to women’s soccer that few platforms have matched. Apple Sports is now available in more than 170 countries and regions, including over 90 markets added since May 2026.

Apple’s expansion directly challenges apps like Fotmob, ESPN, and FlashScore, which have built loyal user bases through detailed stats and live commentary. Apple Sports cannot yet match those apps’ historical data, but it compensates by integrating with Apple TV’s live streaming rights.

Apple TV offers all 62 Leagues Cup matches at no additional cost to subscribers in over 100 countries and regions, giving Apple Sports users a direct path to watch matches they are tracking in the app. Fotmob and FlashScore must redirect users to external streaming services, fragmenting the experience.

Version 4.3 continues Apple’s emphasis on visual differentiation. Users can now view formations across most soccer leagues, allowing fans to see the starting lineup and tactical setup for each match before kickoff. This feature offers quick tactical context that score-focused apps typically require users to hunt for in separate sections.

Apple Sports remains iPhone-only and free to download. The rapid pace of league additions suggests momentum toward broader expansion, though Apple has not confirmed future plans.
