Apple Releases iOS 26.6.1, iPadOS 26.6.1, macOS 26.6.2 with Security Fixes

Apple released iOS 26.6.1, iPadOS 26.6.1, visionOS 26.6.1, and macOS 26.6.2, with all updates delivering security fixes ahead of iOS 27’s expected September launch. The company also released iOS 18.7.10 and iPadOS 18.7.10 for users still running the older iOS 18 line, ensuring that devices across multiple generations receive critical security patches during a critical window of the annual release cycle.

The security fixes in these updates were first made available through the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 beta programs, then backported to both current-generation iOS 26 and legacy iOS 18 releases. This three-tiered release strategy reflects Apple’s commitment to protecting devices during the transition between major OS versions, a period when outdated security code poses the highest risk. Users running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, or visionOS 26 should update immediately through Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 26.6.1

The simultaneous release across iOS 26, iOS 18, macOS 26, and visionOS reflects Apple’s support complexity as devices remain in active use across wider spans of OS generations. By patching iOS 18 alongside the current iOS 26 line, Apple extends the security window for iPhone 11 and iPhone XS owners who either cannot upgrade to newer hardware or have chosen to stay on older software.

For iPad users, the simultaneous release of iPadOS 26.6.1 and iPadOS 18.7.10 reflects similar logic. Many iPad Pro owners, especially those with M1 and M2 models, have deferred OS upgrades because the performance improvements in iPadOS 26 do not justify the risk of instability.

The timing of this release, two weeks before iOS 27‘s public arrival, positions these updates as the final major maintenance cycle for iOS 26 before the system transitions to the next generation. Once iOS 27 ships, Apple will gradually shift resources toward supporting the new OS while limiting the cadence of iOS 26 updates to critical security issues only. Devices unable or unwilling to jump to iOS 27 will continue receiving security patches through the iOS 18.7 line, but the depth and frequency of support will decline substantially as the OS falls further into legacy status.
