After years of promises and incremental upgrades, Apple is finally giving Siri its biggest overhaul yet. With iOS 27, Siri evolves from a simple voice assistant into a conversational AI experience that can understand personal context, work across apps, answer complex questions, and help users get more done throughout the day.
But Siri AI is only part of the story. iOS 27 also brings major Apple Intelligence upgrades, smarter photo editing, Safari improvements, stronger child safety features, accessibility enhancements, and meaningful performance gains across the system. While iOS 26 introduced the dramatic Liquid Glass redesign, iOS 27 focuses on refining the experience and making the iPhone feel faster, smarter, and more useful every day.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Apple isn’t dropping support for any iPhones this year. If your device runs iOS 26, it can run iOS 27 too.
Siri AI finally arrives on iPhone
The new Siri AI is powered by Apple Intelligence and can hold natural conversations, understand personal context, answer questions using information from the web, and take actions across apps. Instead of responding to a single command and stopping there, Siri AI can continue conversations, understand follow-up questions, and help complete more complex tasks.

Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app that stores conversation history across devices. You can start a conversation on your iPhone and continue it later on your iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro.
One of the most useful upgrades is personal context awareness. Siri can find information buried in emails, messages, notes, photos, and calendars. Need a flight confirmation number from an email you received months ago? Siri can find it. Looking for photos from a specific vacation? Siri can pull them up with a simple request.

Siri mode turns your iPhone camera into a visual assistant
Instead of taking a photo and searching manually, users can simply point their iPhone at an object, restaurant menu, document, product, or meal and ask Siri questions about it. Siri can identify what it’s looking at, provide additional information, and even help take action.
Apple showed examples such as getting nutritional information from food, learning more about products, and using visual information to complete everyday tasks.
Apple Intelligence becomes useful across the entire iPhone
In Photos, users can now reframe shots after they are taken using Spatial Reframing. The new Extend tool can intelligently expand images beyond their original borders, while an upgraded Clean Up feature removes distractions more naturally than before.

Safari is also getting smarter. Tabs can automatically organize themselves into topics, making it easier to manage research projects, travel plans, shopping lists, and other browsing sessions.
A new feature called Notify Me can monitor webpages for changes and send alerts when something important happens, such as a product coming back in stock or a price dropping.
Apple Intelligence is also making Shortcuts easier to use. Instead of manually building automations, users can simply describe what they want and let iOS create the shortcut automatically.
Messages, Mail, and Phone get smarter
Messages and Mail can now surface suggestions based on what’s being discussed. If someone sends you information that should become a reminder or note, iOS can suggest the action automatically.

Call Context is another standout feature. When calling a business, iPhone can proactively surface relevant information such as reservation numbers, tracking details, or confirmation codes found in Mail and other apps.

Mail search is also receiving a major overhaul, with a new ranking system designed to surface the emails you’re actually looking for instead of forcing you to scroll endlessly through search results.
Liquid Glass gets the update many users wanted
Apple clearly listened to feedback about Liquid Glass. Rather than forcing a single look on everyone, iOS 27 introduces a new customization slider that lets users adjust the effect from more transparent to more tinted. The update also improves contrast, readability, and consistency throughout the interface.

App icons have also been refined with sharper details and additional visual depth.
iOS 27 is noticeably faster
According to Apple, app launches are up to 30% faster, Photos can load new images up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. The company has also optimized CPU scheduling, improved search indexing, refined memory management, and made network transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular connections smoother.
For many users, these improvements may end up being more valuable than the flashy AI features.
Child safety gets one of its biggest upgrades ever
Parents can now decide which apps are available during setup, approve website access through a new Ask to Browse feature, and manage screen time with more flexible controls.

Communication Safety is also expanding. In addition to helping protect children from nudity in Messages and FaceTime, it can now intervene when violent or graphic content is detected in shared images and videos.

Screen Time has been redesigned as well, giving parents a clearer overview of how devices are being used and making it easier to adjust restrictions on the fly.
Accessibility features continue to improve
VoiceOver gains richer image descriptions and better understanding of the world around users. Magnifier receives new tools for users with low vision, while a new captioning feature can automatically generate subtitles for videos stored on an iPhone or received through Messages and AirDrop.

Apple says the captioning system can also translate existing captions into other languages.
More iOS 27 features worth knowing about
There are plenty of smaller additions throughout iOS 27 that deserve attention.
- iCloud Shared Albums are becoming more accessible for Android and Windows users.
- Health gains new perimenopause and menopause tracking features.
- Maps receives a more detailed Flyover experience.
- AirPods users get a new Custom EQ option.
- Home gains smarter notifications, AI-generated camera descriptions, natural language video search, and support for 4K HomeKit Secure Video recording.
- Apple is also bringing GymKit to iPhone, allowing compatible gym equipment to share more accurate workout data with Apple’s fitness ecosystem.
iOS 27 supported iPhones
iOS 27 supports every device that currently runs iOS 26, including the iPhone 11 lineup and iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). However, some of the most advanced Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features require newer Apple Intelligence-compatible hardware.
iOS 27 release date
The iOS 27 developer beta is available now, while the public beta will launch next month. Apple plans to release the final version of iOS 27 this fall for all supported iPhone models.
Based on everything announced at WWDC 2026, iOS 27 may not be as visually dramatic as iOS 26, but it feels like the more important update. Between Siri AI, Apple Intelligence upgrades, performance improvements, child safety enhancements, and dozens of refinements across the system, Apple is focusing on making the iPhone better in the ways people actually notice every day.
