iOS 27 Is Out Now With Siri AI, Liquid Glass and More

Apple has released iOS 27 for compatible iPhone models, bringing Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence features, Liquid Glass refinements, faster performance, new safety controls, and a range of changes across Apple’s built-in apps.

Siri AI is the biggest addition in iOS 27. Apple is introducing a more capable conversational assistant with personal context, deeper app actions, a dedicated Siri app, and the ability to use online information for more detailed answers. The update also adds AI-powered photo editing, smarter Safari features, new parental controls, and several system-level improvements.

Siri AI Comes To iPhone

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence. The new Siri can handle open-ended questions, support more natural back-and-forth conversations, help brainstorm ideas, and perform actions across supported apps.

Siri AI can also understand personal context on your iPhone. You can ask it to find a photo from years ago, locate an email buried in your inbox, or pull up information from a note without manually searching through each app.

iOS 27 also adds a dedicated Siri app that brings Siri conversations into one place. You can start a conversation on your iPhone, continue it on an iPad, pin important conversations, or start a new one whenever you need it.

Siri Can Take More Actions

Siri AI can now do more than answer questions. It can perform actions in apps such as Messages, Music, Reminders, Mail, and others based on what you ask.

For example, you can ask Siri to edit a message you just sent, add a song to a workout playlist, create a reminder, make a note, or send an email. This makes Siri more useful as an interface for completing tasks rather than simply answering questions.

Siri can also use online information to answer questions about general topics, including facts, recipes, and recommendations.

Siri Comes To The Camera

iOS 27 adds a Siri mode to Camera alongside Visual Intelligence. You can use the camera to identify something around you, ask questions about it, search for information, or take an action based on what the camera sees.

This can be useful for situations where you want information about an object, food, place, or other subject without manually describing it to Siri.

Write With Siri

Siri AI can also help with writing virtually anywhere you can type through the Write With Siri button. You can ask it to create a draft from scratch or provide feedback on existing text.

In Messages and Mail, Siri can adapt its writing to your style, including your punctuation and tone, so generated text can better match the way you normally communicate.

Apple Intelligence Gets More Powerful

Apple is expanding Apple Intelligence across several iPhone apps and experiences in iOS 27.

Photos gets new AI editing tools, including Spatial Reframing, Extend, and an improved Clean Up tool. These features can reframe an image, expand the edges of a photo, or remove larger unwanted objects.

Image Playground also gains the ability to create and transform images in more styles, including photorealistic images.

Safari Gets Smarter

Safari can now automatically organize tabs into topics, making related pages easier to find.

Apple is also adding Notify Me, which can monitor webpages for changes and alert you when something happens. This can include a price change or a product coming back in stock.

Shortcuts Can Build Automations From Descriptions

Shortcuts gets a new Apple Intelligence capability that can turn a natural-language description into an automation.

Instead of manually connecting individual actions, you can describe what you want to happen. For example, you could ask Shortcuts to message someone with your estimated arrival time whenever you leave work.

Child Safety Gets New Controls

iOS 27 introduces additional tools for parents managing children’s iPhones. During setup, parents can choose which system apps their children can use and add more apps later through Ask to Buy.

A new Ask to Browse feature also requires children to request permission before accessing new websites. Parents can review these requests through Messages before approving them.

Communication Safety now goes beyond nudity protection and can intervene before children view graphic violence or gore in shared images and videos.

Parents can also create Time Allowances for categories such as Games, Entertainment, and Social Media, while Schedules can control which apps are available at specific times or days.

Liquid Glass Gets More Control

iOS 27 refines the Liquid Glass design introduced with the previous generation of Apple’s operating systems.

Apple says the updated design improves readability through more consistent refraction and better contrast. App icons are also sharper and more detailed.

A new slider lets users adjust the appearance of Liquid Glass, ranging from an ultraclear look to a more heavily tinted appearance.

iOS 27 Is Faster

Apple says iOS 27 improves performance across the system. App launches can be up to 30% faster, new photos can load in the Photos library up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster.

The update also includes a more optimized CPU scheduler and other system-level improvements designed to make everyday interactions feel more responsive.

Smoother Wi-Fi And Cellular Switching

iOS 27 can more seamlessly switch between Wi-Fi and cellular connections.

The change is designed to keep an iPhone connected when moving between networks, such as leaving home while using Maps or switching connections during a FaceTime call.

Mail Search Gets Better

Mail gets a new search ranking system that puts more relevant results at the top.

This should make it easier to find specific messages even when the email you need is buried deep in a large inbox.

Call Context Surfaces Useful Information

Call Context can proactively surface relevant information from other apps during a business call.

For example, when calling an airline, iOS 27 can display a confirmation code from Mail so you do not have to leave the call and search for it manually.

More iOS 27 Features

iOS 27 also includes several smaller updates across Apple’s apps and services.

  • Accessibility gets richer image descriptions through VoiceOver, automatic captions can generate synced subtitles for videos, and Magnifier adds new tools for people with low vision.
  • iCloud Shared Albums now make it easier for Android and Windows users to contribute through iCloud.com, while full-resolution sharing and additional filtering and reactions are also supported.
  • The Health app adds perimenopause and menopause support to Cycle Tracking, including notifications based on logged cycle patterns and related symptom tracking.
  • Maps gets enhanced Flyover imagery, while AirPods gain a Custom EQ option for adjusting low, mid, and high frequencies.
  • GymKit also comes to iPhone, allowing compatible cardio equipment such as treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and stair-steppers to provide real-time workout metrics.
  • The Home app gains additional Apple Intelligence features, including grouped activity notifications, AI descriptions of supported HomeKit Secure Video footage, natural-language video search, and 4K recording and streaming on supported cameras.

Apple Intelligence features require supported hardware. Siri AI is available in beta in iOS 27 and is rolling out in English initially. Availability can also vary by region and language.

How To Install iOS 27

To install iOS 27, open Settings on your iPhone and go to General > Software Update. If the update is available for your device, tap Update Now or Download and Install and follow the instructions on screen.
