OmniFocus 4.9 is now updated for Apple’s latest operating systems, bringing support for Siri AI, new Apple Intelligence features and additional Shortcuts actions. The update also adds several smaller changes to the app, including more control over the Perspectives Bar on iPhone.
The update gives Siri AI more ways to work with information stored in OmniFocus. It also provides an early look at what Apple’s new Siri can and cannot do when working with third-party apps.
Siri AI Can Work With OmniFocus Tasks
With OmniFocus 4.9, Siri can work with tasks and other information stored in the app using natural language commands.
Siri can create and edit reminders in OmniFocus, including changing due dates, flags, repeat schedules, notes and image attachments. It can also work with projects and folders by understanding them through the same concepts it uses for Apple’s Reminders app.
This allows users to ask Siri to turn information from their existing data into tasks without manually moving between apps.
OmniFocus Adds New Apple Intelligence Features
The update also introduces optional date parsing assistance through Apple Intelligence. This can help interpret dates when adding or working with tasks.
OmniFocus 4.9 also adds new and updated App Intents that are exposed as actions in Shortcuts, giving users more ways to automate tasks and workflows.
Siri AI Still Has Limits
OmniFocus’s developers note that Siri AI does not yet understand every capability of the app. Its current understanding is influenced by the types of actions Apple has trained Siri to recognize.
For example, Siri can work with OmniFocus reminders, lists and groups, but it does not understand every distinction within the app. It also does not yet know how to create more specialized content such as outlines, diagrams or Gantt charts.
Siri Can Use Personal Context
One of the larger changes with Apple’s new Siri is its ability to work with personal context stored on a device.
That means Siri can reference information already available on the user’s device and use it when carrying out tasks. OmniFocus gives an example of asking Siri to create follow-up reminders based on information from meeting notes.
OmniFocus 4.9 Supports Apple’s New OS Updates
The release is compatible with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27.
OmniOutliner also received an update with Liquid Glass refinements, while OmniPlan, OmniGraffle and OmniPresence have been updated for compatibility with Apple’s latest operating systems.
