Apple announced the touchscreen MacBook Pro on October 28, with pre-orders from $2,899 opening that day and deliveries starting Friday, November 6. It is the first Mac with a touch display and comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with a new tandem OLED panel Apple calls PROLED XDR.
Apple’s official name is the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, and both sizes use either M5 Pro or M5 Max. Those are the chips Apple shipped in the March MacBook Pro models, so touch and the new display are what the extra money buys.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899 on November 6
The 14-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $3,399, both with M5 Pro. The M5 Max versions start at $4,499 and $4,799, and education pricing runs from $2,749 to $4,499.
That puts the 16-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro $400 above the current 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro at $2,999. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 at $1,999 also opens for pre-order on October 28, and Apple says a redesigned thermal system is built to sustain the same M5 Pro and M5 Max performance.
Pre-orders opened in 30 countries and regions, including the US. Apple Upgrade leasing in the US starts at $55.99 a month for 36 months. Apple Card Monthly Installments run at 0% APR, and power adapters cost $59 for 70W, $79 for 96W and $99 for 140W.
Touch, Dynamic Island and Siri AI come to the Mac
The touch sensor sits inside the display panel, which reduces latency. A redesigned hinge keeps the screen steady when you tap, and macOS turns touches into clicks so many existing apps work on day one. Gestures include pinch to zoom and flicking windows to tile them.
Notion, Canva, Zoom and Microsoft Word are among the apps adding touch support later this year. Creator Studio apps get touch features too, including canvas drawing in Pixelmator Pro and a multi-touch keyboard in Logic Pro. Developers can also test iOS and iPadOS apps on the display.
The Dynamic Island comes to the Mac as the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, so you can accept an AirDrop request or pause a song from it. Dynamic Island views had already turned up in macOS 27 code before launch.
The touchscreen MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate, and Siri AI arrives as a beta in macOS 27.2 for English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Server-side features have daily limits, and Spotlight shows in the Dynamic Island only when Siri AI is available and enabled.
PROLED XDR display, lighter body and 24-hour battery
The tandem OLED display reaches 2000 nits peak brightness in both HDR and SDR with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Refresh rates run from 10Hz to 120Hz, and the screens grow to 14.2 and 16.3 inches. P3 and Adobe RGB coverage sits in one preset, and the nano-texture option is now etched into the cover glass.
The 14-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before. The 16-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro weighs 4 pounds, which is 0.7 pounds lighter, and both are thinner than their predecessors.
Configurations go up to 128GB of memory and 16TB of storage. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours in Apple’s September testing, and charging reaches up to 50% in 30 minutes.
Ports on the touchscreen MacBook Pro are three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack. The camera is a 12MP Center Stage unit, and the six-speaker system has a redesigned woofer. The enclosure is 100% recycled aluminum.
