Five macOS 27 Dynamic Island views have turned up in system code ahead of Apple’s expected touchscreen MacBook Pro launch on October 28. The pill-shaped views sit inside a new menu bar component called MenuBarAgent. They cover AirPods connecting, Focus turning on, AirPods noise cancellation, a low battery alert at 20% and automatic audio switching.
In a post on X, code explorer pdfu says MenuBarAgent is groundwork for a touchscreen Mac and a Dynamic Island, and that some of the compact system views already ship in macOS 27. The post adds that Siri AI is set to take over what pdfu calls the new system aperture, with a droplet-like design. Apple has not announced a touchscreen Mac or a Dynamic Island for the Mac.
The five macOS 27 Dynamic Island views are system alerts
Every view pdfu shared covers a system event. The post does not say whether Mac apps will be able to use the space, although third-party apps already put Dynamic Island-style panels around the notch on current MacBook Pro models, like the NotchNook app we covered in 2024.
MenuBarAgent is the process macOS 27 uses to draw the menu bar. The developer of a menu bar utility says the release moved from a separate window for every status item to one window for the whole bar. The new views sit in that same process, according to pdfu.
macOS 27 paves the way for a touchscreen Mac and a Dynamic Island with the new MenuBarAgent. Some system compact and minimal views already ship.

Touch changes showed up in the macOS 27.2 betas
Apple released macOS Golden Gate 27.2 on October 26, after betas that added touch-friendly Safari tabs and touch gesture code for Notes, Photos and Quick Look. Apple’s Pro and Tell event begins at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on October 28 in Los Angeles.
Mark Gurman reported in February that the first touch Macs would replace the notch with a Dynamic Island at the center top of the display. He said the camera cutout behind it would be smaller than the one on the iPhone and that menu bar controls would enlarge when a person taps one with a finger.
