Apple has unveiled the next generation of Apple Intelligence, bringing a massive wave of AI-powered features to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Vision Pro. The update introduces advanced photo editing tools, AI-powered Safari features, photorealistic image generation, smarter Messages and Mail experiences, intelligent Home app upgrades, enhanced accessibility features, and deeper automation through Shortcuts.
Built on a new generation of Apple Foundation Models, Apple Intelligence is becoming deeply integrated throughout Apple’s ecosystem. The update also powers the newly announced Siri AI, a redesigned assistant that can understand personal context, answer questions using broad world knowledge, take action across apps, and maintain conversations across devices.
With Apple Intelligence now embedded directly into core apps and services, Apple is positioning AI as a systemwide experience rather than a standalone feature.

“At Apple, our mission has always been to turn the potential of advanced technology into helpful and intuitive products for everyone, and that has never been more important than today,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Truly helpful AI must be centered on our users’ needs, deeply integrated into the products they rely on every day, grounded in personal context, and built with privacy at every step. That is our vision for Apple Intelligence. With useful features for browsing the web, expressing creativity, editing photos, and so much more, today marks a big step forward on our journey to integrate powerful AI into the core of our platforms and make our products even more personal and useful.”
Photos gets AI-powered reframing, image expansion, and better object removal
A new Spatial Reframing feature allows users to adjust the composition of a photo after it has been captured. By leveraging Apple’s spatial computing expertise from Apple Vision Pro, users can reposition an image and preview perspective changes in real time while Apple Intelligence generates only the missing portions required to complete the new composition.

Apple is also introducing Extend, a powerful tool that can expand photos beyond their original boundaries. Users can straighten horizons, adjust aspect ratios, or give subjects more room in a frame without cropping important details.
The popular Clean Up feature is receiving a major upgrade as well. Apple says the tool can now remove distractions with more realistic results, even in complex scenes where backgrounds, textures, and objects overlap.
To improve transparency, photos edited with Apple Intelligence will automatically include a hidden SynthID watermark.
Safari gets AI tab organization, page monitoring, and custom extensions
The browser can now automatically organize tabs into topics based on what users are researching. For example, if someone is planning a vacation, Safari can group travel websites together and continue adding related tabs automatically.
Apple is also introducing Notify Me, a new AI-powered feature that monitors web pages on a user’s behalf. Users can ask Safari to watch for product restocks, price drops, reservation openings, ticket availability, and other changes. When something changes, Safari sends a notification automatically.

Another standout feature is Describe an Extension. Users can simply explain the Safari feature they want, and Apple Intelligence can generate a custom extension directly in the browser toolbar.

Apple says all of these capabilities are built with privacy in mind and do not expose personal browsing data.
Passwords can automatically upgrade weak and compromised accounts
In addition to identifying weak, reused, and compromised credentials, Passwords can now automatically update eligible accounts to stronger passwords. Using Apple Intelligence and Safari, the app can securely navigate supported websites, sign users in, and upgrade their credentials with minimal effort.

The feature aims to remove one of the biggest barriers to better security by handling the password update process automatically.
Image Playground now creates photorealistic images
Apple is dramatically expanding Image Playground with a new image generation model capable of producing photorealistic images.
Users can create high-quality images in a variety of styles, modify existing creations, move or resize objects, and make edits simply by describing what they want. Objects can also be selected by tapping, brushing, or circling them directly on screen.
Image Playground is also becoming more useful throughout the operating system. Users can create Lock Screen wallpapers, Contact Posters, Messages images, and content in different aspect ratios for websites, presentations, flyers, and more.

Like AI-edited Photos images, AI-generated content from Image Playground will include a hidden SynthID watermark.
Messages and Mail become more intelligent
Messages can now surface one-tap suggestions based on conversation content. If someone mentions a task, users may see options to create a reminder or note instantly. When photos are requested, Messages can intelligently locate the most relevant images based on people, locations, keywords, and events stored in a user’s library.

Mail is receiving similar intelligence upgrades. Suggestions can now interact with third-party apps, while Smart Reply can generate responses that better reflect a user’s personal writing style.
Call Context helps when contacting businesses
A new feature called Call Context brings Apple Intelligence directly into the Phone app. When users call a business, the system can proactively surface relevant information such as reservation numbers, tracking details, booking references, or confirmation codes that may be needed during the call.

For example, when calling an airline, the Phone app can automatically locate and display a flight confirmation number stored in Mail.
Apple says Call Context works entirely on device and analyzes who the user is calling rather than what is being said during the conversation.
Calendar can create events from natural language
Users can now add or modify Calendar events simply by describing them. As they type, Calendar automatically identifies contacts, locations, dates, and event details while generating an appropriate title. This reduces the number of manual steps required to create events and appointments.
Describe a Shortcut makes automation easier
Shortcuts is getting one of its biggest upgrades since launch. With Describe a Shortcut, users can explain an automation in plain language and Apple Intelligence will build the shortcut automatically. Users can then continue refining the workflow by describing additional changes instead of manually editing actions.
The feature lowers the barrier to entry for automation and makes powerful workflows accessible to more users.
Home app gains AI-powered notifications and video search
The Home app can now understand related accessory notifications as a single activity, reducing notification overload while providing more useful context.
HomeKit Secure Video cameras are receiving several upgrades, including generated video descriptions, searchable camera footage, and a new Noteworthy section that automatically surfaces important events.

Users can search camera recordings using natural language to find moments such as package deliveries, visitors, or other specific activities without manually reviewing hours of footage.
Accessibility features become more powerful
VoiceOver now provides richer image descriptions and more detailed information about a user’s surroundings. Updates to Live Recognition allow users to ask questions about nearby objects and environments using the Action button on iPhone.
Magnifier gains similar AI-powered scene understanding capabilities for users with low vision.
Voice Control is becoming more natural, allowing users to describe interface elements rather than memorizing exact button names. Accessibility Reader now supports more complex content while adding on-demand summaries and translations.
Additional Apple Intelligence features
Automatic proofreading is now available systemwide, providing more advanced spelling and grammar corrections across apps.
Apple Intelligence can suggest names for files and folders based on their contents, making organization easier.
Workout Buddy is expanding with Spanish language support and can now work on Apple Watch without a nearby iPhone. The feature also incorporates more fitness data to deliver improved coaching and motivational insights.
Genmoji is receiving quality improvements and now allows users to describe specific changes they want to make to generated emoji.
Built around Apple Foundation Models and Private Cloud Compute
The next generation of Apple Intelligence is powered by updated Apple Foundation Models that run both on device and through Private Cloud Compute.
Apple says these models were developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models to support deeply integrated Apple Intelligence experiences across Apple’s platforms.

Privacy remains a central part of the architecture. When requests require cloud processing, Apple says personal data is never stored or made accessible to Apple. Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security protections of iPhone into the cloud while providing access to more advanced AI capabilities.

Siri AI is powered by Apple Intelligence
Apple also confirmed that the next generation of Apple Intelligence powers Siri AI, the company’s newly redesigned assistant.

Siri AI introduces personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, onscreen awareness, Visual Intelligence, integrated Writing Tools, and a dedicated Siri app that syncs conversations across devices. Apple says the new assistant can search through messages, emails, photos, and apps, answer questions on virtually any topic, and perform actions across the operating system.
Availability
The new Apple Intelligence features are available for developer testing starting today through the Apple Developer Program. A public beta will launch next month through the Apple Beta Software Program.
Apple Intelligence will be available this fall as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 on supported devices, including iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro models, Macs with M1 or later, supported iPads, Apple Vision Pro, and compatible Apple Watch models paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.
Some server-based features, including image generation, will have daily usage limits. Apple says increased access will be available through most iCloud+ subscription plans.
