24 New Features in iOS 27.2 for iPhone

iOS 27.2 is out for the iPhone 11 and later, and it adds 24 new features across Siri AI, Messages, Photos, FaceTime, the iPhone Duo, the Apple TV app and Home. The redesigned Health app that showed up in the betas is not in it.

The update shipped on October 26 with 163 security fixes, and Apple’s release notes detail most of the changes. Install it from Settings, then General, then Software Update.

Siri AI Recalls Past Conversations and Speaks Five More Languages

1. Siri AI recalls past conversations. Siri AI can recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week.

2. Siri AI draws on more of your data. It now uses photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List.

3. Excluded Apps. One setting lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access, and you can exclude several apps at once.

4. Granular text selection. You can select and copy just the part of a Siri response you need.

5. Five new languages. Siri AI adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. It runs on all iPhone 16 models and later, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and it is not available in the EU or mainland China.

Messages, Photos and FaceTime Each Get New Tools

6. Suggestions return to Messages. Suggestions in Messages offer one-tap actions for Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Maps, flights and packages, with a toggle for each type.

7. SynthID watermarking. Image Playground images and large AI edits in Photos now carry a SynthID watermark that helps identify whether an image was generated or modified with generative tools.

8. Shared Albums upgrades. Shared Albums get editable captions and comments, duplicate photo prevention and a reminder before an album expires so participants can save their photos and videos.

9. Dual Capture in Group FaceTime. Dual Capture streams your front and rear cameras at once in Group FaceTime calls. Sending both streams needs an iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air or a newer model.

10. Sign language interpreters and captioners. FaceTime lets you add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.

The iPhone Duo Gets Apple Pencil Support and Edge Light

11. Apple Pencil (USB-C) support. The iPhone Duo now works with Apple Pencil (USB-C) on both the inner and outer displays for sketching, annotating and handwritten notes. Apple Pencil Pro and other Pencil models are not supported, and Pencil hover does not work on the iPhone Duo.

12. Edge Light. Edge Light adds a ring of light around the edge of the iPhone Duo’s display to light your face during video calls. It is exclusive to the iPhone Duo.

Apple TV, Apple Music, Podcasts, Games, Phone, Clock, Home and Europe Each Get Their Own Change

13. Multiview in the Apple TV app. Multiview reaches the iPhone for up to four live MLS, Formula 1 and Friday Night Baseball streams.

14. Apple TV profiles. A new profile needs a name and a yes or no on whether it belongs to a child, so each person keeps their own viewing history and recommendations. A child profile defaults to a PG rating, with a customize option for finer control.

15. New Apple Music look. Apple Music gets a black and white app icon, blue replaces red as the accent on the selected tab, and the widgets swap red backgrounds for black.

16. Podcasts Home tab. Up Next on the Home tab splits into New Episodes and Continue Playing.

17. Games Friends tab. The Friends tab shows context on friend suggestions and recent games on a friend’s player page.

18. Games Home tab. The Home tab lists recently downloaded games you have not played yet.

19. Call Context anniversaries. Call Context reminds you of a contact’s anniversary when you call, if the date is saved in Contacts.

20. Smaller alarm labels in Clock. The alarm list shows smaller AM and PM labels, which makes the alarm time stand out.

21. Lock After Closing. Compatible smart locks in the Home app can lock themselves a set time after a door shuts.

22. Door Left Open. The Home app sends a notification when a door stays open too long.

23. HomePod Lock Controls. A Lock Controls setting stops unwanted taps on the top of the HomePod from starting audio, while timers and alarms still respond to touch. It needs the iPhone and the HomePod on version 27.2.

24. A new tracking prompt in Europe. Users in the EU get an alternative App Tracking Transparency prompt that re-prompts every year, and the prompt is required in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania.

The redesigned Health app was in the early betas and is not in the release. Apple pulled it from beta 4 and has said it will launch later this year.
