The iOS 27.3 beta is expected to reach developers at the end of October. It is the update reportedly set to bring Apple Intelligence to mainland China, with the public release planned for December.
Mark Gurman shared the timing in a post on X, saying the beta should arrive with the China features included. It follows his report that Apple is preparing the first set of Apple Intelligence features for China after years of regulatory scrutiny.
Apple Intelligence in China arrives without Siri AI and Image Playground
The first release is the original Apple Intelligence feature set, the one that reached the US two years ago. It covers Genmoji, notification summaries, Writing Tools and the ability to remove items from photos. The new Siri AI assistant that Apple rebuilt this year is not part of it.
Image Playground is also left out, and some text generation features will be limited in certain apps. Apple executives are not optimistic that Siri AI will reach China anytime soon.
Apple developed guardrails for the China version with Alibaba, including a filter that lets the government approve ongoing updates to the AI models. Phone makers such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo already offer AI services in China, so Apple is entering with a feature set that is two years old.
Apple once expected to release the features in May 2025, then at the end of 2025, then this past spring. It received preliminary approval in July, and a December launch would end a delay of more than a year.
The iOS 27.3 beta should land as iOS 27.2 wraps up
Apple released iOS 27.2 beta 4 on October 13, eight days after beta 3. The build removed the redesigned Health app, and Apple has said the new Siri AI languages in iOS 27.2 arrive in October.
iOS 27.2 also adds more than 10 iPhone features, including Apple TV app profiles and new CarPlay Ultra options. HomePod mini 2 runs HomePod software 27.2 and ships on Friday, October 30, so the update needs to be out before then.
If the timing holds, the iOS 27.3 beta and the iOS 27.2 release land in the same stretch of late October. No iOS 27.3 build is listed on Apple’s developer releases page yet, and a December release would leave several weeks of testing.
Version numbers have been unusual this cycle. Apple never released an iOS 27.1 beta, and that version ships only on the iPhone Duo, which goes on sale Friday, October 23.
