Apple has changed the Apple Music icon in iOS 27.2 beta 4. The new icon is black and white, and it replaces the red and white one that has been on iPhones until now.
In light mode the logo is black on a white background, and in dark mode it is white on a black background. The change follows the new Apple Music logo that first appeared on the Apple Music Hall website and then in iOS 27.2 beta 3, and Apple has not announced either one.
Red highlights give way to blue inside the Music app
The icon is not the only change in beta 4. The selected icon in the navigation bar now uses a blue highlight instead of red, and the text in the Music app’s settings swaps red for blue. Apple Music widgets also use a black background in place of a red one.
Taken together, the changes point to Apple moving away from red across the service.
The new look follows Apple Music Hall’s branding
The new logo pairs the Apple symbol with a heavier lowercase “music” wordmark, and it first showed up on the Apple Music Hall website. Apple Music Hall is the 600-capacity venue Apple opened inside London’s Battersea Power Station in September, and the venue’s site uses the same heavy type. The logo then turned up inside iOS 27.2 beta 3 on October 5, so beta 4 is the second beta in a row to carry the redesign.
The venue is still the place most people see the logo outside the betas. Its calendar has six shows booked between October 7 and December 2, including Troye Sivan on October 13 and Arlo Parks on October 22. Apple Music for Android is also testing a Liquid Glass redesign in its 7.0 beta, so the service is changing on more than one platform at once.
Apple also used the new logo in marketing materials for the venue’s announcement, so beta 4 is the first time the branding reaches the home screen icon.
The icon can still change before iOS 27.2 ships
Anything in a beta can change before the public release, and Apple has not said whether the icon will change again. Apple seeded beta 4 to developers on October 13, eight days after beta 3, alongside macOS Golden Gate 27.2 beta 4, watchOS 27.2 beta 4, and visionOS 27.2 beta 4. Apple has said the Siri AI languages in iOS 27.2 arrive in October, which puts the final release close behind the iPhone Duo launch on October 23.
Apple Music runs in more than 167 countries and regions, so a new icon reaches a large audience once iOS 27.2 ships.
