Suggestions in Messages are back in iOS 27.2. When a conversation mentions a dinner plan or a package, Messages now offers a one-tap shortcut to act on it, such as adding the invite to Calendar or tracking the delivery.
Apple’s iOS 27.2 release notes say Suggestions in Messages help you take action based on the context of your conversations. The feature showed up in the summer iOS 27 betas, and Apple pulled Messages suggestions shortly before the September 14 launch. This is its first appearance on a public release, and Apple lists it as available in English.
Messages turns the context of a chat into one-tap actions
The suggestions read the conversation and offer the next step. A message about plans can lead to a calendar event or a reminder, and a message with a tracking number can lead to package tracking. They appear as a chip in the keyboard toolbar, so they sit where your thumb already is.
Siri AI also learned to draw on Messages in the same update, including photos attached to conversations.
Five toggles decide which suggestions you see
The control that returned with the feature is the one that matters most. In Settings, then Apps, then Messages, then Suggested Actions, you can turn each type on or off:
- Add to Calendar
- Add to Reminders
- Add to Notes
- Show in Maps
- Flights and Packages
We first spotted this when Apple was building granular Suggested Actions controls in iOS 27.2 beta 3. Having a switch per app is what makes the feature easy to live with, because you can keep package tracking and drop Notes if the chip keeps showing up where you do not want it.
An earlier look at the screen also showed a Hide Unused Suggestions switch, with a note that suggestions you do not use stop appearing after 30 days. That switch came from beta code, and Apple’s release notes do not mention it, so check Settings after you update before counting on it.
Muted chats leaving the unread count is still unannounced
Suggestions are not the only Messages work in progress. Code in iOS 27.2 also pointed to muted chats leaving the Messages unread count, which Apple has not announced.
If you have not updated yet, the iOS 27.2 build is available from Settings, then General, then Software Update. The iPhone 11 and later can install it.
